How to waste an evening

I felt inspired this evening - and decided to paint my kitchen. I was tired of the blue walls and decided I wanted my kitchen white.

I didn't bother with tester pots etc. - after all, white paint is white paint isn't it?

Except that apparently - it's not.

Having just spent several hours painting, I've now discovered that Homebase "soothing white" is not white at all. It's a very pale blue. So I've just painted my blue kitchen...... blue.

The tin says "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back". Well, if it doesn't look better in natural light they will be giving me my money back!

... after all, white paint is white paint isn't it?..

There are *dozens* of shades starting from pure brilliant white and covering the off whites.

They all look white on their own, but put them side by side and you're in for a shock!

Even the 'same' designation of white can be different, depending on the make (Wickes, Dulux, Homebase etc). I've learned the hard way, got FOUR different freakin magnolias sitting in my garage :D

I think the only white that actually is white is the one called pure brilliant white, The rest are all off white with some tint in them. Hey think yourself lucky you could have gotten one with red in it. You'd now have a pink friggin kitchen :p To be fair here and it used to be my business stark white kitchens look bloody awful and show up the dirt easier. My advice for what its worth is this, You used to like the blue else you wouldn't have painted the kitchen that colour in the first place, alot of your stuff probably colour codes with blue as well. Paint the coving back to white (a couple of coats of paint on coving is always a good thing anyways as it discolours really badly over time anyways). Let the blueish white dry properly (its always a lot darker when wet) and see how you feel about it in a week or so.

I cannot see them giving you your money back on the paint to be fair, but if you really don't like it they may give you a voucher against some more paint if you are firm and polite.

I've looked at it this morning - and although I would have preferred white, I really can't be bothered to paint the entire kitchen again so it will stay. It does look better than it did anyway, so I guess that's progress.

I got caught out with a yellow in our our kitchen. I wanted a real bright pale yellow. Got the piant but it was in a see through plastic tub, slapped it on and then when it dried it turned almost a mustard colour.....:(

I have got used to it now.....;)
