stevie_b
I've read lots of threads about changing the engine coolant, but I've got a couple of questions still unanswered: 1) what do people use to collect the old coolant as it comes out of the drain plug(s)? I know I could just let it run down the drains, but I'd rather not (being environmentally friendly and all that). 7.5 litres (or whatever the capacity is) is a lot of liquid to collect! 2) I'd like to drain the coolant from both drain plugs and double-flush the radiator and heater matrix with hose water, because I haven't done it since owning the car. No other reason. Should I be careful of how hard I force hose water through the rad? Obviously I won't go crazy, but is the radiator fragile when it comes to mains-pressure water? JustGav
Strange you should say that chap.. I've just done mine. Clean, degunked, flushed x3 and then fresh coolant. Not a difficult job.
merckx
I just use a plastic washing up bowl to catch the coolant. This may help. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/coolant_flush/index.html
stevie_b
Is it common practise to change the thermostat at the same time as doing a thorough flush? Or am I making pointless work for myself? Bought a washing up bowl from tescos: 11 litre capacity, 99p!
