Turbofit Trader Status Removed

Shocked! I've spend the odd day or two up with Turbofit as it got rave recommendations, even though I was a "200 miles round trip" away. I found them very friendly and helpful, Greg especially.

 

So, living near Bracknell, Reading - where SHOULD I be going for servicing, maintenance, clutch fitting, etc...someone nice and close would be ideal, but I don't know who to trust now! Unfortunately Chris Wilson is way too far away!

 

 

I live in Farnborough and take my car to Phoenix in Watford.

I bought a few things of turbo fit, great fast and friendly service, I was well impressed with the service and attitude.

 

I inherited Phoenix's work on my latest Supra. All I am saying is I stripped it to a shell and started again, and the expert painter next door would be better using a roller on interior walls IMO.

So much hype about various garages, I prefer to do my own work when ever possible, so far I have put about 100 hours into this car. If I had to pick a garage to build my car I think it would be RSE, everything I have seen from there so far has been A1 and Andy knows a torque wrench is for more than just head studs.

All IMO of course.

I would, and do, highly recommend Phoenix in Watford. Why? - Because Mark is a genuinely qualified mechanic. Proud and conscientious about his work.

 

 

 

There are plenty of other decent traders around though. Don't be put off too much by all this. Look for the more longstanding ones.

I kind of agree, i am inclined to say that in the first place the Supra is no more complicated than most modern engines, and being so most competent garages should have no problem whatsoever servicing/fixing them!

The problem arises when someone with the mechanical understanding and ability of my cat!decides that he wants a big spec fast modded jap car, now i am not knocking these people at all, but it then leaves them no choice but to use only "tuners/specialist's" for any work, so they are then at the mercy of the supposed competence and skill of these people, and the varied opinions of everybody else in the modified/performance scene!

 

So IMO if you want to own a high spec/performance modified car, then either be prepared to pay for the best tuners, or don't bother unless you can do it all yourself.

 

Well, if I'm every back in a Supra I'll be calling on the advice of some truly brilliant members on here and give things a shot myself I think. Ric and Bob have helped me out on occassions when I didn't have a clue what's wrong and I really, really appreciate their help. Trick TT (Rich) has been BRILLIANT. It's the members who do the work themselves that we should try to gain access to for us noobies.

 

I totall agree with both those comments. It's taking my cars to garages like these that has prompted me to do as much of the work on my car as I possibly can.

The reason why I've documented the strip down and rebuild of mine is so that fellow members can use it as a guide to do the same. As long as you do your research, are methodical, use the correct tools, and have a clean environment to work in, there's no reason why you can't strip down and rebuild pretty much anything. If you miss out any of those, then you best have the number of a tow company on speed dial.

Terry needs to comment on the work regarding Phoenix. Most of the work done on that car was way before the days of Phoenix...

I think to be honest a lot of the inconsistancy on peoples views in these situations are down to what people percieve to be the correct way of doing things.

On my only visit to turbofit, I saw people smoking whilst working on people's car's, letting fag ash drop into the engine bay. I saw them throw bolts from one side of the car into a mag tray on the other side, amongst three or four more serious things that involved a members car.

If I behaved in any way like they did, at my work, my feet wouldn't touch the floor.

What is your response, if said I have pictures of parts sitting on the roof of my car. Pretty much where I found a dent recently?

 

More than willing to post this picture as well... and some others that I have been holding back on.

It may be time to eat humble pie. My car has lost boost the turbo is spooling but no pressure. Will keep everyone updated. :(

I had this the first day I got the car, a makeshift silicone hose ripped open, you can be almost sure thats what it is.

thats probably because he cant be bothered with you any more after you pulled apart a perfectely reasonable car. I do wonder if you actually understand what technical features were on your car? Did you bother researching the ECU and the associated wiring loom and talk to anybody who actually knows about Autronic units before ripping it out? Do you even know the modification history on the car, which tuners have worked on it and who mapped it?

Earnie, you bought a car, without seeing it, just assuming that it was what you wanted. Now you're bleeting on and on. If anyone else bought a car without trying it and seeing if we liked it we'd be laughed at.

 

The fact that you've ripped out an Autronic to fit an AEM makes me laugh even more...

Blimey.. i can't belive its happend:blink: er, actually yes i can..

 

I said this was gonna happen a year or so ago, and yet nobody wanted to listen, the masses just flamed me for having an opinion,

i even went out on a limb and put up photo proof of the poor workmanship of Turbo fit and it still wasnt enough to convince people, it seemed as long as they were getting what seemed to be a good deal, and supplied with chicken and chips on arrival my comments didnt matter.

Matt harwwod has already said his bit, so i need not go into that aswell, he, as many other competent traders had the pleasure putting the work right, or aleast road legal.

 

I know not all of the customers will admit to having many problems with their cars, as they will remain loyal to Greg and sam..

But c'mon, majority speaks volume,

 

still its an end of yet another nightmare for some, and yet will still go a little for others as they try to repair their cars.

unfortuntely its the same everywhere, just because you play at cars does not mean you should open a business!!

 

a guy on the 300 club who was a chef like to tinckle with his 300zx so hey presto a business opens and starts off ok then the threads start about issues, then the horror stories start ie missing stuff off etc etc

 

i'm lucky my dad is a mechanic and when he works i'm soooo impatient because he is so methodical about measurements, torquing bolts etc etc and thats whats missing, you wouldnt go and see a doctor who had no training but managed to stick a plaster on a cut one day would you?? so why go and see a garage with no fully qualified and experienced mechanics??

 

i do feel for the guys who have been ripped off or had bad workmanship and hope they get the work sorted.

 

the best garage ive ever used is RB Motorsports, not because there cheap etc as there not but the owner has a great mentality, he told me when a customer picks up a car and tests it and gets shown the work done and is very happy with it then gets the bill and nearly falls over but pays it because he's happy with the work then he's done a great job ie charged a good rate to make money but not cut corners to keep the costs down!! i now dont mind paying the going rate or even above the going rate as long as i know i'm getting a top notch job, cutting corners only costs a hell of alot more in the long run.

Oh my god...I talked to Sam and Greg a few weeks ago re. a single turbo and 6 speed conversion and the prices they quoted me were extremely low - but I am glad to have seen this thread.

 

A similar thing happend to me and my Audi so I know as how it feels to get ripped off via your car.

 

I surely hope all the claimants get some money back...

Rich from someone who bought a pretty well stuffed supra, had it running like a bag of spanners, and now doesnt even have one.

 

Buy a Supra make it better than this one and THEN talk to me.

 

Its a bigger deal to you than me by the sounds of it.

 

IF i was really ripping about the car you would have had all the above before now. It would never have been posted only for the like of you and Branners, Ian C etc starting at me about it.

If you wanted to help Terry, shutting your gub would have helped.

I haven't posted on here for some time now as people well know. I've given up on Supra ownership. Or 'my dream car' as I usually called it.

 

Sam, Greg, if you do read this, I actually, 100%, hope you burn in hell. No man would usually admit it, but I think Im big enough. You two ruined 12months of my life with your poor communication, bullshit stories, total ignorance, lack of moral fibre, god Im so angry I could go on til the cows come home!!

 

Im still finding things out that you did to my car. Nissan Skyline fuel pump ring any bells???

 

Now Im proven not to be a liar about your shoddy workmanship I at last feel a bit less bitter about the whole fiasco. But not much. You go to sleep and thank your lucky stars I decided to get my car up and running instead of suing you both for everything you own under several acts purtaining to the supply of goods and services, and lack of proper care.

 

I for one dont agree that they are nice people. I think that they are sly and cunning.

 

I really hope from the bottom of my heart that Graham and Jon, and anyone else, get their problems sorted to a satisfactory end. Not just getting your money back or a certain part replaced, but compensation also for the misery you have to endure while you sit twiddling your thumbs, dwelling on your misfortune, as weeks turn to months, and the sad saga of your pride and joy not running continues.
