Hi can any one tell me what it might mean if the green slip cont light comes on? I put my foot down at some lights this morning and completley lost power and the light came on. this is the one next to the petrol gauge. i didnt really have a lot of petrol and the orange light had started to come on could this have been the reason? I did stop and put petrol in straight away and the light has now gone off.

All it means is that the traction control has activated. If the light flashes it's a temporary activation. If the light stays on, then it detected a larger slip so it decides to stay on and reduce power.

As you've discovered, the light doesn't persist over an engine restart. You can also press the traction control button a couple of times to clear it, or if you briefly floor the throttle it seems to clear it too.

Traction control lights and meanings.....

Orange TRC OFF light: Comes on when the "TRC OFF" button has been pressed, indicating that the traction control system has been disabled. If this light comes on when the button hasn't been pressed then that indicates a malfunction in the traction control system.

Green TRC light (flashing): Comes on when the traction control is zapping some (or most of) of cars power to try and regain traction. This light should only flash for a few seconds at a time and then it will go out once the car is back under control.

Green TRC light (on, according to manual): Indicates a fault in the system, however I know this to be incorrect.

Green TRC light (on, according to me driving my car many miles!): This happens when after approximately 5 seconds of flashing the traction control still hasn't been able to regain control of the wheels. At this point the traction control goes into OTT mode, whereby 1st gear is disabled and all the other gears suffer sevear power loss. Once this happens there are two ways to turn it off.

1) Turn off traction control using the TRC OFF button, then turn it back on again.

2) Put your foot to the floor! If you give it some serious throttle and the wheels still grip then it will disable this mode and go back to normal.

I can only assume this mode is SNOW MODE but before the snow button was actually added to the supra's control panel.

Hi Jusie,

It's just the crappy stock traction control doing it's thing......... bloody dangerous if you ask me (think trying to get out a junction quickly in busy traffic, sitting duck comes to mind!) - why I mentioned to you just turn traction control off as a habit. It really is shockingly crap.

Cheers,

Brian.

Nope no new toys :( In fact I just bought a shockingly sensible 406 exec td as my new commuter  Makes a bit more sense than my MR2.

I'm contemplating a bike for cheap thrills :D

Hope she's still going strong for ya!

Cheers,

5 seconds is usually how long it takes for the stock TC to realise your wheels are spinning, then cuts the engine for 5 seconds!
