Pete
Your best man for a professional job would be Chris Wilson at Whitchurch.
Scooter
it may even be more economical to consider a replacement known good entire engine, as these can be had for little more than a genuine toyota head gasket set.........
Mike_Mac
Especially an NA engine. Surely you'd have some comeback against the seller. I thought that even with a private sale the sale of goods act still applies and the goods still have to be reasonably fit for purpose unless stated otherwise? I'd check your legal ground first. grahamc
Perfect time to get a TT engine! hell yeah, to that.
Chris Wilson
I have a good used N/A engine here. Are you sure it's not just condensation under the filler cap through lack of use, or long journeys? Be SURE it's the gasket first! If it HAS gone there'll be a very good reason, like very serious overheating which may have done other damage, and the cause will need properly addressing. JustGav
Has the heater matrix been bypassed by any chance?
Adzn2k
turns out the head is cracked and i need a new one, so i'm gonna have to swap the engine!! chris i'm definatly interested in that engine will it be fine to just drop straight in or will it need working on? could you hold it till the end of august when i'm back in the country? i'm going to try to get the guy i bought the car off to pay for the fitting how much should it cost to get the engine fitted realisticly?? I'd love to get a TT conversion but i'm not rich enough!!
Chris Wilson
I am too busy with my mother in hospital and other work to do the swap in the foreseeable future, but as I said on the phone, the engine was a lovely runner from a sub 40K mile car. It was removed and dry stored about 18 months ago. It's a used engine, and would have absolutely NO warranty stated or implied. I bought it to convert to single turbo, but as it's still sat there 18 months later...
Jezz
We can supply and fit a warranted NA engine if Chris is too snowed under. Or even just fit a supplied one. I have 5 in stock, cos these folk keep having these TT conversions see.

Jezz
how much for a supplied and fitted one? where are you located and how long would it take? I dont want to tread on Chris's toes if you've already discussed an engine from him. We'd need your car for a day just to be safe. We're based in Silverstone Northants. Feel free to give us a call tomorrow, 07779 725350, 01327 858000.
Chris Wilson
Not a problem, please carry on I had no idea you were in Silverstone, I get up there a lot. For some reason I thought you were south of the Thames.
dangerous brain
Jezzy's near silverstone??? Bloody hell someone not on the board with a six speed please crash soon as I want my conversion doing. (eek that sounds real bad). Back on topic--- How the hell did someone crack a stock N/A's head? Yeah that with the heater matrix by-pass question. If the engines gone and the heater matrix is shot I would be considering ebay right now as £2800 value that cars not far off a write off if you are paying for labour. Adzn2k
I'm sorry chris but i want a warrantied engine so i don't have to worry if the engine is gonna die as soon as i turn it over for the first time lol. Jezzybabes could you email me a price and how long it is going to take ([email protected]) so i can show the person i bought the car off how much it's going to cost, i'm going to try and get him to pay half. How do i check if the heater matrix is bypassed will this cause the engine to blow again?
Adzn2k
i have a sneaking suspision that this car it the one dangerouse brian had problems with. i've read the posts from lucifer and brian and this car fits the description even down to having redstuff rear pads but i couldn't see the pics on the original posts what was the private reg the one on my car starts with tcz i think (new car and i'm not near it lol) what was the reg of the one you guys had? have you still got pics? dangerous brain
If its the car I think it is then get the hell rid of it back on ebay. Its a real shitter. There was a whole list of stuff wrong with that car and I wouldn't have wished it on anyone other than the guy that sold it to me. TCZ 5 something 13 I think was the reg but I can check later after work.
Adzn2k
my mate has looked the car over and he says there isn't anything worth worrying about on the car except the small matter of an engine change lol i'm currently in negotiations with the bloke i bought it off regarding the new engine i want him to pay half towards it as he didn't mention the dodgy engine in the adverts. i need jezzy babes to email me or pm me a quote for the whole job including a warrantied engine so i can forward it on to him
dangerous brain
So the heater matrix has been replaced? The diff no longer growls when you put your foot down in it? The wheels were re-conditioned, the rust spots dealt with? There's a list of problems I have somewhere I can dig out if you like. My only advice regarding that car would be if its from a trader take it back its a lemon.
