Advantages of a Boost Controller?

Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone could avise me on the following. My J-Spec TT has been fully decatted and is running at 1.1 bar with the OD off. (1.2bar with the OD on and the car being in 4th gear- Load Related)

I am looking to purchase a Greddy Emange to map my fueling etc to fine tune my fuelling curve. My question is should I buy the Profec E01 Boost controller aswell. I know this unit has lots of features and complements the Emanage.

However if I am already hitting 1.1/1.2bar, what would be the advantages of fitting a boost controller aswell. Will it promote a better boost curve etc? also if I decide to purchase should I fit a smaller restrictor ring so the car is back to say 0.9 bar and use the boost controller to increase the boost.

I would be grateful if the technical bods could answer this. My plans eventually are to replace my stock turbos so I will need a boost controller eventually but I wanted to know the advantaged taking into account my presents mods.

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't buy a Profec as it doubles the price of the whole E-Manage system. But then I have a laptop that I can set up the E-Manage with and an Apexi boost controller, so the Profec's functions that I would be interested in I can do already.

Doesn't sound like you need a boost controller, as long as you aren't going over 1.2bar. Others will disagree with me though :)

I've got an PRofec e-01 and it has certainly increased the midrange boost. My turbos didn't used to come on song until about 4250rpm but since fitting the e-01 it seems to make full boost from about 3800. That's a big improvement in my book. As you know, decatted J-specs don't need help making high boost but the increased midrange is great.

What's the best price you've had for an e-manage, Vaughany?

I've got a brand new e-manage here, you can have it for £200 inc postage.

Hi Jake

I am looking to import from the states, I have been quoted $1005 for the Emanage, Profec E01 and all the asociated Harnesses and other bits. On the current exchange rate when I last looked this equates to about £550 which aint bad.

Why are you getting rid of your Emanage, your buying an AEM arent you? What is your opinion of the Emanage?

cheers

Yeah that sounds like a good price as long as you don't get hit for 21% import duty.

I paid £490 inc delivery for my e-mananage and e-01 with no additional harnesses.

I bought them on a whim really but TBH I'm nowhere near ready to fit the e-manage yet.

If you are staying with the stock injectors, don't bother with the emanage.

It will only scare you when you see the injectors running at 100% duty cycle at anything over 1 bar!

If you are upgrading the injectors, then its a good bit of kit.

I didn't bother with the E-01 either......... mainly cos I don't know where to put it and I don't like things stuck on the dash!!

Although, I saw CJ's today and thats hidden away nicely

You don't necessarily need to upgrade injectors, although that is the best option. You can just get an adjustable fuel pressure reg and up the fuel pressure a bit to get the same effect, which is cheaper. I love my Profec E01, it's a very nice bit of kit, and it's nice to be able to monitor what's going on in the car without having to hook a laptop up. It was a simple choice for me because I don't have a laptop! When I finally get round to sorting my wideband out I will be able to monitor in realtime and log 3 hours worth of air/fuel ratio, boost, exhaust gas temp (I have a Greddy EGT gauge), revs, speed, injector duty cycle and throttle%. Great if you like gadgets!

As Jake said, the car certainly feels faster because you basically get max boost from the moment the 2nd turbo comes online rather than having it build up gradually to max.

The screen is pretty big and hard to find a place for. I have mine on a mount that's designed for a mobile phone, it sticks out to the left of the fan speed dial.

Thanks everyone for the info, I have took everyones opinion on oboard and have decide to purchase the emange aswell as the Profec E01. My only question now is do I put a smaller restrictor ring so I use the Boost Controller to raise the boost or do I leave in the exiting ring that hodls my boost at 1.1/1.2 bar

Thanks
