garetheves
Need to buy a nice economical deisel once my Supra is sold. At the minute the options are: 1. Mk3 Golf TDi 2. Mk4 Golf TDi 3. Ford Focus Turbo Diesel. I have a max of £3000 to spend and fuel economy is the most important thing but obviously would like it to be reliable as well. At the price im looking at the mileage is going to be pretty high which isnt ideal with the Ford, but you can pick them up cheaper than the Mk4 Golfs. Any other suggestions or advice on the above?? garetheves
Another option: 4. BMW 318 Tds Compact
penguin
4. vecta turbo diesel - cheap as chips, good looking car (depending on year!) and average 52mpg.
DJButler
Reccomend a deisel, you taking the octane?.

Only trouble is reliability with it being a Vauxhaul, especially with higher mileage.
johnnyknox
Only trouble is reliability with it being a Vauxhaul, especially with higher mileage. My mate had one..nothing but trouble for him. Cost him 2k to get it sorted and it still didn't run right after all that money was spent on it. Dare I say it...Peugeot make good diesels. Perhaps a 307 HDI..that's what I want

rob wild
A mate of mine at work wanted a cheap car just to get him to work and park in the streets (i now work in really bad area of Preston). He bought a 1999 HONDA CIVIC TURBO DIESEL 2.0 TD for about £1400 and he done about 15000 miles in it this a year and its been great for him and he runs in on cooking oil and the fuel cost him some like £25 a month

Soop Dogg
TBH, anything with the VW/Audi 1.9TDi in it - reliable and very frugal. Golf will have it in. Angie has an Audi A6 which is knocking on for 160,000 miles and no probs with that engine at all. I know of one with over 250,000 that's still going strong too! Thats a point i forgot the Audis had the same engine sa the Golf. There are a few nicish A3 and A4s around for under 3K as well. nice one. This is deffinately a possibility.
