Who's got Sky HD?

Looks like my poxy Sky+ box has just bought the farm. If I'm gonna buy another one (can't live without Sky+ now) then I may as well upgrade to a Sky HD box instead . . . as long as it works as a Sky+ box too.

I think it does, can anyone confirm that?

Any downsides I should be aware of?

Thanks

Yet another tenner a month? Robbin gits those Sky folk.

Maybe so but I consider the BBC and their forced extortion of just over £10 per month to be an even bigger rip off. I never watch BBC and I feel that it is a complete rip off and I should not have to pay for something I do not want just so some fat asses can give themselves some ridiculous bonuses and the old boys at the BBC can keep their 'empire' intact.

IMO they should show commercial breaks and get with the times. This is the year 2007, not 19 friggin 60.

Rant over. :)

Jake, whats your sky+ box doing, and what model is it? I may be able to help you if you are not bothered about HD.

We have installed a few HD boxes at work and all were the Thomson box. The only problem we have had is inserting a "9" for the dialing prefix. For some reason they never seem to save the change, or drop out. Then I get bombarded with phone calls from the operator telling me that the sky box is calling them at all hours because our switchboards answer to (0). We have been told that this has been fixed but havn't had chance to find out yet. I am not sure if it is still the case, but Sky used to insist that they are installed by their "expert" installers and you couldn't just buy one off the shelf. Only some ASAs had access to them, but this could have changed by now if they are appearing on Ebay.

apparntly my friend who works at mentioned satalite company says the HD boxes are coming down to 99quid in the next few weeks

Only a matter of time.

Not being into sports I do think at the moment the amount of material transmitted in HD is lacking though.

I love my sky HD the quality is amazing and there is going to be more channels soon, the engineer told me there going to be around 70 by early next year :)

Think i paid about £250 for mine about 6 months ago.

On the robbing score, my bill is now £75 a month from sky

Thinking of doing the same mate, Sky is really getting on my tits at the moment ! Seem to spend all evening flicking through 5000 channels and not finding anything to watch, which is a bit crap for £47odd a month. I'd rather bin Sky and buy four DVDs a month ! Well, tend to do that too but you know what I mean ;)

Another thing we both do/have!!

I have been meaning to ditch it for a while. This week we haven't missed anything and I have told the missus that if she wants to watch a film, I'll nip down the dvd shop for it.

If anything it has made me appreciate the other channels we have. I may have problems when the new season starts as I'll be watching Spurs down the pub instead of home!!;)

Agreed...

I gave up watching TV as a rule, because of the amount of crap (Well apart from Jerry), and I found the most used channels by the kids is the Discovery Channel which is great, apart from that there is nothing else to watch, and when we as a family watch something, it is either a movie or discovery.

The rest of the time I watch TV series from the US on the media centre. Yes they are downloaded, but why should we wait so long to get the same stuff WITHOUT 30 minutes of ads dropped in.

No way!! I couldn't give a feck for BBC1 but Radio 1 & 5 Live are worth the license fee alone in my view! :) Radio 1 especially - it's an institution!
