Guest Terry S
Because I am anal, I want to Datalog a VVTi's stock timing map. The JDM OBD2 uses a different protocol than European, so a normal OBD2 scanner cant read it. Sooooo, I am looking for something that I can wire from the crank trigger output to log the timing. Any ideas guys??
eyefi
it's a tricky one, 'cos it's not just logging a voltage. dont u need to compare the cps with the ignition signal and derive a degree value from that?
Guest Terry S
Yes. I wondered if anyone had actually come across a box on their travels specifically for this rather than getting my head around configuring something. Now the Blitz R-Vit can do it, ( read degrees of timing) but AFAIK has no datalogging capabilities which is a real shame. If these things could datalog they would be perfect as they also read RPM, Pressure etc.
Ian C
Terry, you could use the blitz R-vit and a video camera if you were desperate, some video editing software to step through each frame and get the timing, pressure, and RPM values... -Ian
eyefi
what's yr ems (piggyback) setup?
Guest Terry S
LMAO Chis, you have too much time also not sure it displays it all at once, but a good thought The R-Vit also uses IR to the power meter. Wonder if Julian at RL can convert the signal??
Guest Terry S
well I really only want the inputs the stock ECU is seeing eyefi.
eyefi
how much use would this data b without being timecoded to any other data thats logged at the same time? r u planning on just using the rpm as a rough timecode?
Guest Terry S
Yes that was the plan as I can datalog pressure, AFR, TPS, AFM input via the Map ECU. If the R-Vit can be made to do it, then it becomes the hot ticket.
Guest Terry S
The Video maybe an option. it looks like it can display 6 inputs at once

matt
This anygood? You'll obviously need a connector/ converter to serial....... but should be easy enough
Guest Terry S
Thanks Matt, I looked at something similar, but they apparently wont recognise the JDM only ones, In fact I know someone who has all the Toyota Europe readers, and they wont recognise it either. matt
Which protocol does the soop use??
Guest Terry S
If I knew that I would be a happy man:) The VVTi TT was never destined to be sold outside Japan, so they have their own OBD2 protocol apparently.
matt
I see ...... could be tricky then!
TLicense
Is there no way you could temporarily hook up some kind of piggy back that can datalog (Don't know which ones can/can't) but just leave it un-programmed? (ie +/- 0 advance from the ecu) Best of luck...
jagman
it may be possible using an oscilloscope with 2 input probes and comparing the waveform shift( timing)-to datalog it unless you use a scope with memory/playback you would have to video it- try carsoft in buckingham may be able to help you- hth

Matt Harwood
Anyone want to volunteer to sit under the bonnet with a timing light? Sorry, that wasn't helpful at all...

dandan
Didn't you guys have some software for the EManage that could log actual ignition timing values?
