DannyW
We're moving house in a couple of weeks and i thought i'd take the oppurtunity to upgrade the TV, out with the old and in with the new and all that. The current samsung 42" plasma we have will be going into the bedroom, i want to upgrade to a 50" HD ready plasma but which one to go for? Seen this one Clicky Any good? DannyW
you seem to like samsung Not really bothered about the make, it's the price that's appealing Saying that, ive had my current plasma nearly 2 years with no problems whatsoever. Any opinions on that model? has it got everything i need? i'm not really up on the latest technology. All i want is to be able to run my xbox 360 through it in HD and that's it really. I got a 42 phillips and thats great. I'm going big though this time, 50" and only want to spend around a grand. Are LCD still better in big sizes? i was always told that LCD's were only better on the smaller sizes i.e. below 42".
caliAl
I’ve got a Samsung 32” HD ready TV and it’s been excellent. You can get a 37” for about £600 these days.
chilly
For a grand you wont get a 50" LCD IMO unless its a shit make from Afghanistan!! Dont know about Plasma, they seem to be cheaper now that LCD seem to have taken their mantle. I got a 40" Sony LCD from the Comet website for £850. They do good savings if you order online. Richer Sounds is another website who have some massive but limited bargains, but you must pick up in store.
DannyW
I'm going to have to go to a shop and compare some in the flesh. I'm not buying LCD though as i want a 50" and LCD is far too expensive in that size.

DaveK
I actually disagree that LCD is better than plasma. My mates 42" plasma is better than my 32" LCD in my opinion (and they are both Panasonic). If / when I replace mine, I will go plasma.
chilly
Check this out, LG 50" Plasma £800 dabs!! http://www.richersounds.com/productlist.php?cda=productlist&sgroup=PLASMA

chilly
Plasma gets my vote. Before i got my LCD i researched both and apparently plasma screens start to degrade after about 5 years. LCD were an upgrade on plasma, but i dont know. I like mine but i've not really seen a plasma. Prices on both have dropped dramatically over the last few years. I paid £800 on a flat screen 28" 100 hz normal tv less than 4 years ago.
DannyW
Before i got my LCD i researched both and apparently plasma screens start to degrade after about 5 years. To be fair though, ive never kept a TV for 5 years, and probably never will, 2 years tops i reckon. So the degrading thing isn't an issue either. You just need to check stock at your local store and go and have a look. There is plenty of cheap 42", but bigger ones still demand over a grand

chilly
This is the shortcut for the Leicester site: http://www.richersounds.com/information.php?cda=locationdetails&locationid=43 And no I dont work for Richer Sounds!
DaveK
I suspect mail order may be cheaper though. I bought a Sony surround sound amp this week from Richer Sounds - was £85 more than the cheapest price I found on the web, but nobody seemed to have it in stock - except Richer Sounds. You just need to check stock at your local store and go and have a look. To me it looks like you've got to spend over £1500 on AV equipment to get that price. I'm quite tired and I've had a couple, so I could be wrong though. I'm looking into buying my first (!) TV and I'm currently thinking of LCD due to the plasma degradation issue. I can't afford to fork out close to a grand on a TV every two years. The portable in my room is now 4 years old but I consider it fairly new and it still does the job. If it ain't broke, why try and fix it?
