Gaz6002
I've just bought a new engine and the compression is showing as 14bar on all 6 cylinders. Is this correct? I was under the impression it should be lower than 14? Closer to 12? It should be just a stock 2JZ-GTE lump (cannot see any mods anyway). Gaz6002
bump! anyone?
Pig
I was showing approx 150 psi on all on my new engine. 2mm head gasket though - i think the head gasket width makes a difference.
Gaz6002
thats what I'm concerned about, your 150psi is 10.3 bar and my 14 bar is 203 psi!
Jake
200psi does sound a bit high for a TT. How are you checking it?
Pig
I have no tech knowledge but IIRC if your running a 1.6 HG it would have higher compression. Why would high compression be a problem?
Jake
A turbo engine will det its arse off if the compression ratio is too high Jon.

Gaz6002
200psi does sound a bit high for a TT. How are you checking it? Warm engine, Plugs out, crank until pressure builds and read. The engine is meant to have covered just 27,000km so only just run in but still, it just seems too high. I'm racking my brain for possible causes. The car will be mapped on the power FC as soon as prepared but I don't want to get that far along if i'm going to have to get the head off again! Jake
Thinking about it Gaz 200psi is probably about right for a low mileage engine with stock head gasket. My 93 RZ was around 185-190psi per cylinder and that was at 80k miles.

I guess it shows that the engines mileage is more than likely accurate

Sheefa
My compression test revealed about 150-152 on each cylinder mate and that was a stock lump that's covered approx 45,000 miles if that helps at all. New OEM head fitted too.
b_have
Is your gauge an expensive callibrated one? I've seen a Halfords gauge read 15psi higher than my workshop one.
suprafan72
Do a leakdown test, Maybe get some detcans on it... to see if any knock is appearing?
