Tannhauser
I had the alignment looked at today. It was interesting to watch, but the final set-up figures are still pretty opaque to me.I haven't used the car in anger yet, but it seems in some way more 'solid'. I'm interested in views on whether this looks OK ish as a set up - see attachment. Also, some figures are 'out of tolerance' (which was just like me trying to find the place for two hours) - what does this mean? michael
'out of tolerance' means 'we couldn't adjust this it to the right setting' Basically each part has a range of figures that are acceptable, the tolerance, if they can't adjust something to within this then they print that. Normally they will highlight the reasons for not being able to do this with you - when mine got done everything went within tolerance but a couple of bits are at the max point of adjustment due to worn or seized parts. I believe some of the bits adjust on an eccentric rubber cam-like bush that can seize up.

Tannhauser
Thanks, Michael. Hmmm....that's a bit disturbing, then. Nothing was mentioned as being a problem and I must confess that I didn't spot it until I was home.
Lazarus
Cliff, can I ask where you took your's for the alignment. I don't live very far from you and am looking for any respected place's in the local area for "run of the mill" work on mine. Was it in Warminster? SimonB
The thing that is out of tolerance now is the castor, which they don't normally change unless you asked specially. I think it's a pain to change so it looks like they haven't bothered.

They were recommended to me. Simon, I'm pretty sure he was fiddling around with the castor, so why the settings remain out of tolerance is a mystery. I'll mail them or ring them and find out...
