Class One
Could also be an indication of impending crank pulley failure, or slack auxuillary belt or the bearing on the alternator, ie any number of things. Try and establish where the squeak is coming exactly and go from there, but i wouldn't leave it.
TT-DEK
I had something like this last year. It turned out to be Aux belt tensioner? I thought it was cams as the sound transmitted round that area? Best to get it checked buddy, better safe than sorry!!!!
SkinnBa
Does it go away when the engine gets warm? If so it could be the aux belt. You can test it by spraying a little water on it when the engine is cold, if it goes away it's the aux belt.
Dave
thanks guys it does sound like a belt squeek it doesnt go away when warm it ticks over at 600rpm if i increase the revs to 750 it goes sprayed a bit of wd and it was still there ,perhaps i will get a new aux belt see if that stops it .front pulley doesnt look wobbly at all just done my sons one and his was nearly seperated just been out to have another listen and its either the belt or the alternator, is a new belt a MR T item or can i get one elsewhere?? Gordon F
Try spraying your wd40 behind the power steering pump pulley into the front bearing of the pump. Mine squeaks a bit if it's been left for a while and spraying the wd40 in there gets rid of the noise.
