mitchell
Hi - the saga continues...I currently have my 95 n/a supra import in the local garage failing its MOT due to brake problems. Apparently the whole braking system is inefficient and the first things that need replacing are the rear Callipers. The problem I have is that the alloys have been upgraded to 18" and as a novice to mechanics do not know what callipers are currently fitted (whether they are standard or upgraded). I took some photos on my phone which I hope to upload soon but wondered if there was a simple way of finding out other than buying some replacement units off of say Ebay and seeing if they fit! The car is a bit of a dog in comparison to my other Supra and this could be the first issue in a large list hence me wanting to try and keep the costs down and source the parts myself! Any help would be great Ta

gaz1
Apparently the whole braking system is inefficient and the first things that need replacing are the rear Callipers. as in they leak or what, could it be pads, hoses, a calliper refurb kit should be ok, toyota designed them to be efficient, so should just need a refurrb;)
r1george
If the rear caliper has one piston then you have normal J-spec rears but if you have two pistons one facing the other you have the upgraded bigger brakes. Most people call then UK brakes. Usually if the bigger brakes are on the back then the front should be four piston calipers.

Nic
Pics of the larger 4 pot front and 2 pot rear calipers here. http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=98436 If yours have an open 'slot' at the front they are most likely the smaller 2 pot front and 1 pot rears

mr lover
they are standard j spec brakes mate
Chris Wilson
It needs discs and a gallon of paint stripper, for a start I'd bet if they freed the caliper sliders, put new discs and pads in all round and adjusted the handbrake it'd transform things. Working in sunglasses will slow things down though.
Nic
they are standard j spec brakes mate 2 pot front, 1 pot rear calipers. 4 pot front kits in stock if needed (2 pot rears would need to be ordered). http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=98436
ShamelessTT
I will have a full set of USED JSpec calipers for sale after the w.e. If you need any. They were working fine, just my discs were shot on the car. (But i went UK Spec)
mitchell
yeah yeah - I know they look bad and have been done very badly by the previous young owner! I have a set of rear jspec calipers on there way to me so once they are fitted will know a little more as to other brake defects. Shameless...have you the front set?
