Black smoke from exhaust

Me again, I don't like posting in this forum :(

I passed a friend on the motorway at the weekend and when we pulled up he said as I went past him a large cloud of black smoke came out of the exhaust :search:

What could be the possible causes of this? I've also been having trouble boosting above .85bar for the past week or so and not sure if this is related? Split or loose boost hoses perhaps?

Cheers

Are you running a stock ecu? Check your plugs for fouling.... you could be doing more damage than good.

Also if you have the wrong type of atmospheric dump valve that could make you run pig rich too..

Right, plugs seem to be fine.

I'm running an HKS BOV. I haven't had any smoke since owning the car and it's only started doing it. I still need to check the pipes but from a quick inspection earlier there didn't seem to be any loose or cracked hoses.

i've just had a thought... the current plugs on there at the moment are HKS Iridiums. I had a quick glance at the spark plug FAQ and noticed that these were simply rebranded/relablled Denso plugs and not up to the job of BPU/Hybrids.

Would it be sensible to invest in some NGK plugs perhaps? If so, what ones? After the drive home tonight I'm going to check the plugs for a second time to see if anything is wrong.

Cheers
