I`m just doing my BPU on a 98 vvti jspec tt..... and when I bought the car, the SL were already removed, but my speedometer needel stops at 120 KM\H, but I can go faster.... and when I hit the trottle from 120 and up, the speedo goes to zero???? and no warning inside the car....

removed the dash today and I can`t find anything "aftermarket" there.... where can the sld be located?

or will this be solved when I install my TRD 320 speedo?

Not bein funny, but do you know what a SLD looks like? They can be pretty small. The biggest I've seen them is matchbox sized. The smallest looks like a rectangular piece of chewing gum with 2 or 3 wires coming out of it.

I don't think fitting a different speedo will help. If the stock spedo doesn't work properly, neither will an aftermarket one.

Sorry I can't be more help.

checked the entire dash, can`t find it, and yes I know it can be small, tried to follow the wires but no luck yet....

thanks for all replies:)

if it's one of the older larger types it may be hiding behind or around the radio area, have you looked there?

I bought an HKS SLD. Took about an hour to fit (mostly due to the fiddly part of splicing the bare wires together).

It is attached directly to the ECU.

Be warned though, the instructions are in Japanese and it will take another hour to try and decipher them. The diagrams are quite clear though.

It works well with my TRD speedo.

I know Greddy make one that is about half the price.

I hope this helps.

I`ll buy one shortly, but I`m not sure if its the speed limiter I have found, found the same kind of small boxes with no markings several places in the car.....will post a photo here later today....

I took mine up to ~120leptops other day, total loss of power then came back once below this speed , it was supposed to be delimited aswell!. So annoying when garages blag you.

yea but you can still hit fuel cut even though its delimited:)

  • 1 month later...
the two top pictures are near the ecu....

the last is just above left leg on driver side

just an update; these pictures are connectors, for what I don`t know.

just replaced my speedo and just like that my new 320 km speedo is working as it should be and suddenly I`m limited!!!

top speed 180km.....

my old speedo stopped at 120 and went back to zero and no limitation.... any ideas? could the delimiter be inside the old speedo???????

and yes, I have also fitted a greddy bcc installed and boost 1,1 - 1,2 bar....

It is a manual or auto... The auto's have had hassles with the SLDs.. I know mine did, just wouldn't change gear properly... So I'm going to change the gearbox to a manual.

The way the circuit is setup...

speed sensor -> speedo -> odo -> ecu (You might find that your old speedo wasn't sending the signal on, which means you would have had things like light steering)... Just one possibility.

It`s manual 98 vvti TT...

and yes at high speed the steering was a bit light:)

I`ll have to order a delimiter then...
