Snooze
Yeah - I enjoy watching the odd boxing match. I enjoy it for the same reason I enjoy most other sports - it's the skill-based, technical aspects of throwing a good punch and the strategy and tactics of understanding and out-boxing your opponent (respectively) that I enjoy, not the fact that it's two blokes pummeling the cr*p out of each other, if that helps explain why I like it? That's probably why I don't enjoy watching pure strength/speed tests (ie. most athletics/weight lifting/etc. stuff bores me rigid). There IS a technical, strategic element to boxing, even if you don't see it at first. THAT'S the interesting bit.
Charlotte
I wish I did see what it is that people like about watching it. I don't see the skill that you're talking about, I do literally see, like you said two men hitting each other.
jamesmark
2 men in the square circle have a fight, points are awarded for technical ability in the ring for punches and blocks etc. Boxing is probably one of the most easiest sports to understand, and even the logic behind it is understandable. jamesmark
What is the logic behind it? It is a gentlemans sport, or then again when you see some of them it used to be. It was a show of manhood back in the day, now it's evolved.
Charlotte
Yes, me That Enzo Macaranelli fight was a corker wasnt it It was a good fight, if that's what it is, I mean one of the guys was hitting the other one more. What's with all the hugging?
TonyP
I'm with Charlotte on this one. I've never understood boxing. If the sport was purely about the skill the boxers would have a lot more protection and bouts would be decided purely on points. As it is the whole point of a boxing match is to beat your opponent unconscious. I really don't see how that can be considered sport in this day and age. juanchan
I'm with Charlotte on this one. I appreciate why a lot of people find it enjoyable, but it doesn't entertain me. I remember being at a mates house when the Harrison-other bloke with name beginning with H was on a while back. I found that sooooooo boring! Granted, my mates who enjoy boxing said it was a bad fight, but it was far from watchable. I'll still watch Rocky though I want to take up a martial art, but not for the competitive fighting, more from a general fitness, stamina and co-ordination sense. I have got two left feet afterall! jamesmark
I can understand the arguement totally as I am the same as Charlotte but with football. I find football totally pointless and extremely boring. 22 pansies running about a field getting over paid, now Rugby (leauge or union) is a better sport where it is played for the sport and not for the money. I bet that probably a lot of footballers would not do it if they were paid the same as rugby players.
Ewen
The intention is to knock the opponent unconcious. Self-defence yes....sport, no.
