As for how much you should save, well Insurance costs may well be a factor depending on your age and if the car is an import (likely if you want a manual car), but i'd say around £10 may well get you a good car, possibly a bit less. Expensive doesn't necessarilly mean good, and cheap ones are not always sheds, you just have to get out and look and check on here for the major things to look for that should mean you avoid any nasty suprises. Wait till you're 21, then 25 , then 30 , then 40 Even had one company tell me the other week for a renewal quote that as I was 41 , I was considered old enough to drive an import Supra - till they quoted me £500 more than my renewal of £589.
