RobSheffield
The suction above the hole resulted in several helicopter crashes, so all flight above the hole is prohibited now. Why would there be suction above a simple 1.5 km wide hole?
Ark
Some awesome photos of a Japanese sewer. They look like something from a video game. Yeah, I thought I'd seen that set in Half Life.
AndrewOW
The suction above the hole resulted in several helicopter crashes, so all flight above the hole is prohibited now. Why would there be suction above a simple 1.5 km wide hole? I think its due to air flow/pressure. Cold air sinking into the hole as it is so cold there, may drag helicopters down without warning. Almost like those very low air pressure 'mini super cells' that can cause planes to drop suddenly coming in to land. Then again I'm probably wrong! Edit: Amazing machines though! paul_y3k
yep same things happens over lakes when i used to go gliding as a kid. cold air sinks and brinks the aircraft down with you, i guess if the sink is rapid enough then it'll bring down powered aircraft too
