Gerry
Came home on Tuesday to find that an owl had crashed into our front upstairs window... No sign of owl, just an imprint on the window (see pics)... A dove did the same thing a couple of months ago, it left a lovely impression on the glass with a "surprised expression" on it's face You can see it even better from outside, with most of it's wings. Birds have a "dust" (don't know it's name) in their feathers and it must have come off and stuck to the window. Thought owls were supposed to have good eyesight as well.. Supe
wouldn't be funny if it got inside your house though, that would be a PITA.
Gerry
wouldn't be funny if it got inside your house though, that would be a PITA. Couple of years ago a jackdaw came down the chimney, it caused mayhem for a few minutes as two pointers (dogs) chased it round the room (and it was covered in soot) until I eventually steered it out a window... Great fun
Gaz6002
sorry but that just doesn't look like an owl to me!! Once a pigeon did that to my window and it made a print just like a huge bald eagle. So in conclusion, head-on bird prints can be deceiving

Snooze
LOL - if it was that bugger (a great grey owl, I think?), it probably would have come right through the window - they're enormous! It also would have to have flown a long way - you don't get them in this country!
Gaz6002
ROFLMAO!!!! Chicken lol! I think that if an owl hit your window at WOT it would most likely break the glass... when I saw the pigeon hit my window it bent right inwards and owls are rather a lot bigger

neil tt
I thought the same, looks like a pigeon to me, the wings look to much like how a pigeon is:)
juanchan
wouldn't be funny if it got inside your house though, that would be a PITA. A Little Owl once fell down my parents chimney. It flew straight into a wall and left a sooty print just like those pictures! It didn't even seem that bothered by the impact. It just landed with a thump, stood up, shook a load of soot off, flapped its wings and it was away again!
Kranz
Where's CW the owl expert when we need him?
Class One
We had that happen to us. As it happened a Sparrowhawk swooped in and took the bird (which turned out to be a pigeon,) for the kill.

You don't have a shot of the ground below with a battered looking, embarrassed Owl hoping no-one saw him...? with all his little owl mates looking down from the nearest tree pointing and laughing! It also would have to have flown a long way - you don't get them in this country! I used this pic cos it was an owl (not the owl), I guess mine was a tawny as there are lots around here. ------- A pigeon would be heavier than an owl as oqls are all feathers & air. ------- Sparrowhawks - best little bird in the world. If you imprint them (as some falconers do) they are afraid of nothing. I used to hunt a little musket (male sparrowhawk) and once he caught & held onto the back of a cock pheasant as it flew out of some kale. He looked like a little jockey and I doubt the pheasant hardly knew he was there. The same bird came off his kill in a field & attacked a cow that was investigating him - he grabbed it right on it's nose - very funny. Can't remember exactly how heavy he was but they usually fly at about 4-5 oz !!!

dini_the_owl
my tawny did this a couple of years ago when i was training her on the back yard, she went to fly into the house via the patio doors and bang, fortunately she saw it at the last minute and deviated from a head on, but it still knocked her out and her best friend was there to revive her.....me.....arghhhhhhh. still got her to this day although it happens so easily, looks like it took a good frontal though, hope it survived.
