Brain teaser engine question

edge

Recommended Posts

I was listening to the radio the other week and they had a brain teaser question

WHAT IN AN ENGINE SERVES NO PURPOSE BUT WITHOUT IT

IT WOULDNT WORK?

I heard a few people phone in saying air, water etc

But i didnt get to find out what the answer was.

Anyone know?

If it wouldn't work without something, then to me that something must serve a purpose. Surely?

Thats what i kept thinking  Then my brian started to hurt so gave up and thought it would be a good question for the forum.;)

so would an engine not work in the vacuum of space ?

(obviously if it had an air supply into the combustion chambers)

there's no noise in space. ;)

actually thinking about it, it would have to be a specialised engine with a sealed air-flow...... actually thinking about it even more is doing my head in so I'm not going to type anything else !!
