Power steering leak

ok, this has now pissed me off chronically as I went home at lunch time, to get the car, to take a mate for a drive, to find no power steering fluid in the car.

I am not sure, but the leak does not seem to coming from the container that you put the fluid in. Did not have much time to look, but will spend time tonight.

Can anyone help with this?

Have you checked where the power steering hoses connect to the steering rack? I had a leak from there not long back.

I take it when you say that all the fluid has gone you mean that the fluid in the reservoir has gone? If so then yes just top it back up and bleed the system if needed.

I understand that to bleed the system you top it up then with the cap off on the res you turn the wheel full lock either way a few times then it is done

Yes that, the engine should be running obviously, and each time you hit full lock hold it there for a few seconds.. It may not need bleeding as mine didn't when it happened to me.

You will know if it does as the PS pump makes a loud squealing noise. It also may take a while to bleed, so don't give up after a short while, and remember to keep re-checking the fluid level when bleeding the system and making sure it stays close to full.

If that is the case, you can pick up second hand power steering pumps quite cheap, and they are pretty easy to fit.

I know the sound well, it made it when I started the car.

Will top it up and see if I can find out where the leak is coming from.

ok here is what I have found

1 pic is the puddle of fluid that remained after a minute or 2 of car running and doing full lock left, full lock right. At full lock the fluid was at a constant flow.

1 pic is of the pipe that I believe to be the cause of the issue...

what you think? easy or hard to fix?
