luke marshall
can this be done? i know its not ideal but the cost of having the six speed box sorted is to much and i can lay my hands on a 5 speed for peanuts. its not mine it belongs to a mate and his 6 speed is dead and he needs to be mobile. wallace9
I don't see why not. I think the 5 speed would handle the power ok...not sure how long for though. I'm sure an expert will be along soon to give you the facts.
Nic
It's possible, but I've read of quite a few people who've done it and the 5spd box has not lasted long. Probably worth trying and seeing how it goes.

garethr
The Americans seem to reckon the W58 is OK for 400-450 (US)hp in their NA-Ts. You could always try the R154 from an MA70 and a 300(?) quid bellhousing from Toyota. (What I've never understood is that the Australians think of the W58 as a strong 'box to use with their V8s. Surely the torque would do it no good at all?)

gaz1
yeah it can, has been done many time,s, you won,t have the top end power though and it will put strain on the box, although many have and continue to keep going;)
Chris Wilson
You'll need the whole clutch assembly and release mechanism, maybe the slave and master cylinders, gear stick, possibly the rear mount and crossmember, and the right bits of the propshaft. You need to check what flywheel the N/A runs, too. The starter on an N/A is a different part number, this may be just because it's more powerful, to turn the higher compression N/A engine, in which case it should be fine to use the TT one still, or it may have a different pinion to match the different flywheel... You need to spend time with the parts CD's.
