just recently ive bought some of the new disney pixar cars from the US for my little boy (he`s cars mad)and i thought the postage would be loads it was £9.99 per item and i bought 2 items from the sellar, every thing was shown on the item in pounds and not dollars but when i recieved the item because i bought 2 items (i.e.6 cars) the sellar had only paid $12 which works out at about £5 so ive paid £15 over the top so really it cost £2.50 per item for postage and i dont think a jiffy bag cost £15, what would you do? is it one of those fair cop thing and i shouldnt of made my bid so high ?

Standard eBay practice sadly, they charge more for postage because eBay don't take this into account when working out their final sale charges - they then make more money.

I presume postage costs were stated on the auction before you placed a bid?

Personally I'd probably use the new enhanced feedback to indicate postage costs were higher than they should have been, put it down to (bad) experience and negotiate postage in advance in future.

Or send him a message first and see if he'll offer a token refund to buy your positive feedback ;)

he hasnt left me any feed back yet either i was under the idea they left you feedback after you paid

Problem is that if you leave negative feedback or criticise them in any way they usually leave negative feedback. Not fair at all as they ripped you off, but sadly a fact of Fleabay!

I don't see a major problem with it tbh as long as it was clearly stated in the auction. I've charged more than it actually costs for postage in the past. As Michael says its a fairly standard event (ebay rob the seller of less money, I also think it is fair to hike it up slightly as I have to go out of my way to travel to the post office. time=money). I always very carefully assess the price of postage whenever I've bid on any item. One thing that sometimes happens, and is not on in my book is when the seller takes money for a certain service (e.g. Royal Mail special delivery) but still sends the item out with a much cheaper service (e.g. Royal Mail standard parcels).

If you are genuinely happy for the price paid and quality of the goods I would leave positive feedback, but detail in the advanced feedback that postage was more expensive than you thought reasonable.

You saw the price and obviously decided it was agreeable. It's not fair to start questioning it now after the fact just because the sellers actual postage costs were less. Given the choice of either over-estimating the cost of postage for something, or underestimating and potentially coming out at an overall loss following eBay and PayPal fees, and then under-estimated postage, I'd over-estimate it every time. It also takes time and fuel to get to a post office or office supplier for packaging material, and then get it actually posted.

Whether it was a genuine over-estimation or an attempt at circumventing eBay fees shouldn't matter really IMO.
