Strange speedo problems

Morning :)

Went out for a small drive yesterday and as i hit the motorway (only doing about 80) the speedo just died and fell down to the pin. I slowed down to what I thought was about 50/60 and then accelerated hard again and it shot back up :search::blink:

Could it be a loose connection somewhere? Perhaps something to do with the conversion kit used? I've had a search on here but couldn't really find anything.

Cheers

Dave

this has developed into something a bit more sinister I think...

Whilst crawling along in traffic the speedo started going mental again, going up to 180 and then back down to 60, then sometimes going off the clock!!

I slowed to a stop. Went to pull away and had no power at all, no matter how hard I put the pedal down the car just wouldn't go, so there I was just crawling along. Again came to a stop and this time when I went to pull away the car stalled. Not good.

Strange thing is this only happens when the speedo goes crazy. Drove the car all last night and it was fine, no problems at all.

I've read up on the whole code 42 issue and will be taking a closer look at the weekend. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this for me and tell me if the 2 problems are related.

A mate of mine had this problem on his '94 Vauxhall Cavalier. It turned out to be a dodgy camshaft sensor i think. The car kept going into limp home mode with the speedo needle going mental.

Any dash warning lights come on?

no dash warning lights. Though the OD light was flashing for a while until the car sorted itself out. I'm really hoping it's a sensor and nothing too major...
