if the drive doesnt spin up im afraid you have suffered the same fate as me im afraid, if it did spin just wouldnt register then norton ghost would of sorted you out. However my pc whiz is trying an experiment to replace the pcb in my fried hard drive so watch this space its a long shot but dont throw your new paper weight away just yet :sos:

i'll hold on to it then :)

it's a couple of years old, but i'll keep my eyes open for a drive of the same model and try swaping the board over

I would mate. if swapping the pcb from another drive the batch and model number must be identical to stand any chance of it working or its a defo no show. On another note i just posted on your lights forum as you have been recommended by the boys on here ;)

Might sound a bit odd but if all else fails try putting it in the freezer for ahwile, if the platters or heads are making contact the contraction of the metal when its very cold can temporarily bring it to life. Just watch out for condensation. I had to do it 3-4 times with my old 13gb hitachi back in the days of mhz and amd k6 processors. It would work for a few minutes until it warmed up.
