spackrackman
Been offered a tootle around Donnington on a "quiet night" the noise restriction is 98 decibels. Its only 30 quid but if my exhaust is louder than that then there is no point as I wont even last a lap. Double decat RSR Exmag GTII any ideas? Many thanks Jonnie
Ric
probably over
Gaz6002
it won't be that loud although my RSR made 98db with both cats in so I doubt you will make the noise limit
SUPRASUZUKI
Not sure of the difference between the two exhausts but mine made 98db with a Kakimoto (no baffle) and double decat. If the RSR is known as a 'noisy' exhaust I think you might struggle.
spackrackman
I think I will risk it and just not put my foot down! Its only £30 so even one lap is something I have never done before! I will try and learn where the microphones are
silvershark44
£30 for 1 lap?
Clarkey
You'll be over the limit IMO. Run a baffle and you'll MAY under the limit.
Pete
Depends who runs the event. If it's Donningtons own TrackZone I believe they can be a bit fussy. Running at full pelt with a baffle in isn't really a good idea.
Clarkey
Running at full pelt with a baffle in isn't really a good idea. Oh yes. I remember hearing about that - can't recall why. EGTs ?
SUPRASUZUKI
Not sure who you're going with, but MSV tested us before letting us onto the track at Snett (bike) and Cadwell (Soop). So you might pay your £30 and not even get a lap.
Trig
i have one cat removed and it was 102 db with my RSR, the other cat is coming out next friday......

Just out of interest, what revs was that at? MSV measured with the car stationary at 3/4 max rpm. Interestingly they measured the bike at 1/2 max power rpm. Trig
They just asked me to keep around the 2.5 and 3k revs mark, which is where its loudest This was at brands hatch and they let me on, even tho the sound limit is 98db...
Pete
Oh yes. I remember hearing about that - can't recall why. EGTs ? From another thread... Putting a restrictor in the exhaust, just small enough to control boost on engines with overly small wastegates, isn't so bad, but adding further restriction to control noise is madness. Noise should be controlled by bigger silencers, or more silencers, or more efficient silencers. Ramming a bung in the tailpipe is about as crude as it gets, noise control wise, and can lead to sky high cylinder head and valve temps. If you want a quiet system with little restriction the Tanabe range has a superb system. i fitted one to Rush's car, and I am getting one for my Skyline, I was that impressed by it.
