outatime
500HP and 500 lbs/ft Torque from an NA engine??? Is that possible (refering to the torque figure being so close to the BHP figure) Very possible with that much displacement. Mine is is only 5.7 litre and is 350bhp with 375ft lb. The Viper is very much like a kit car, Nic is right - they squeak and rattle over bumps. I don't like the V10 sound either, but that is a personal thing. Can't be beaten for presence though, they look amazing on the road. I'd agree that one is overpriced, but it will no doubt sell. I do like them, but it would have to be a 3rd car and even then I doubt it would get used much
JohnA
Bit like a pumped-up US version of the big TVRs. I bet it would make a freakin good twin-turbo project though!

Chris Wilson
If you want a truck engine in an agricultural chassis just buy a *leedin' truck, at least they don't devalue too much and are actually useful and good at what they are supposed to do

Chris Wilson
Have a drive in one, and tell me you honestly really still want it. Chrysler have been very bold with some of their recent products (Crossfire, Predator, that big square styled Jeep thing, Viper, et cetera). Sadly all of them are fur coat and no knickers efforts. Only the best advertising departments can take a truck engine, make it sound glamorous, and actually make people buy the things The Crossfire is supposed to be a modern sports car, yet it doesn't have rack and pinion steering, but a horrible steering box, and it shows the minute you get behind the wheel. They haven't cottoned on that whilst the Yanks can't tell the difference between handling and whoring, we Europeans can.

silvershark44
I drove my friends Viper, it was the earlier model though, it basically felt like a glorified kit car with a frikin great engine strapped up front. Build quality was not great and the soft top and windows leaked like a b*st*rd. It was pretty quick in a straight line and sounded great, but the steering was on a hair trigger, lose your concentration or take your eyes off the road for a second and you will be off the road seriously dead. Exciting to drive, but I couldn't live with one. Jody Kidd the super model drives one. I rember seeing her in a gumball interview and they asked her why she looked so tired after a short stint. She said basically that you had to have 110% concentration at all times to drive it or you die lol.
JohnA
...110% concentration at all times to drive it or you die lol. Sounds fun I had made a bike like this, it feels nice knowing you've got enough power to annihilate everything, but after the third cold sweat (or brown pants, whatever you call it) it starts to get tiring. ...not that I would mind a Viper at the right price:d
silvershark44
I would love a viper just because its a Viper. People will always give you the "its rubbish round corners", "its amarican" etc. But at the end of the day, no car is perfect. It would hardly be a voring drive, just very different. oh and one more reason to get one,........ ITS A VIPER!!!!!!!!
Daston
to be fair they cant be that bad around corners (no leaf springs) they dont do too bad at le mans or other GT races.

tDR
Why do we all drive powerful RWD cars and not Skylines that can put all the power down? For me, the answer to that question is that special relationship between car and driver - the one of 'being able to tame the beast' that involves respect and understanding of what you are in control of. There's also the knowledge you can have a play, hanging the back end out if you dare. Now the Viper..... a mean mother of a car with a rediculously huge engine in a lairy RWD chassis - I'd LOVE one!!! For the very reasons stated above Cheers, Brian.
