Spark plugs...

"How would you know that a Supra needs its sparks replacing."

Halfords are doing a special on sparks at the moment, you can get a bag full real cheap. Use rubber glovers when fitting though as the little suckers'll give you a nasty shock otherwise.

Any particular brand?

How many is there?

1) 60k miles if using platinum plugs, 12k miles if using normal ones (which is probably a better bet) I THINK! Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong

2) NGK are good, steer clear of brand names like Blitz or HKS, you pay way over the odds for nothing special.

3) There are six, one for each cylinder :)

4) Check the service history to see when they were last done. A good indicator of a high tension problem is missing on high boost (when the ignition system is working hardest to create a spark). This could be either plugs or HT leads.

Remember there are no HT leads on a MKIV TT, but the coil packs are known to degrade over time.

Anyone elaborate at the Brads stoopid gag. I hold my hands up, i've not got a clue about cars.

I'm not annoyed, far from it. I'm intrigued by the 'hilarious' path this thread took, after my 'foolish' spark plug question.

Left handed glass hammer anyone?

:stupid:

I'd recommend the NGK 6097 (BKR7E) for a non-stock car, i.e. one that runs higher boost. Any decent car parts shop should be able to get them and they are quite cheap. I replace them whenever I change my oil but then again I have a single turbo which is a bit harder on the plugs. If you have misfires at high boost try a smaller gap.

Well, your car is an inline six-cylinder engine, right? So it's got six spark plugs. It's a bit like asking how many brake discs you need to swap the full set...

I would have thought that everyone who is even slightly interested in Supras would know that they had six cylinders, and I think others would agree - hence the huge amount of abuse heaped upon you!

Sorry about being crassly unhelpful :) What a bunch of mycrofts you must think we are :conf:

Haha. No probs Ian, I didn't know it was 6 cylinder or know what a cylinder is/does.

But I see how it would funny to the Supra Engine Fans.

Feel free to hit me with cheap shots.. best time to kick a man, is when he's down.

Flip, did you know the Supra was 6 cylinder?

Well it's actually got a few more than that if you include, the brake cylinders and clutch cylinders (if manual). But don't want to be pedantic or confuse the issue, if not you may all want to knight me!!!

A cylinder is the tube which the piston goes up and down in, so it's actually six pistons in the engine. The pistons get pushed by the fuel/air mix burning in the cylinder, and that's what makes the car go. The more cylinders you have the better. It's important to know this so that you can look down on four cylinder engines as inferior :D

My bad for assuming everyone with a Supra should know how an engine works, I didn't mean to cause any offence!
