hiten55
ive just got my car (j-spec tt) back from having the following fitted: hks super dragger 1st decat ngk iridium spark plugs hks panel filter trd oil filter new fuel filter braided hoses cusco master cylinder stopper new engine, gearbox, diff, and power steering oils 5.1 brake fluid and now im having the following problems: the first turbo kicks in later at 2500-3000 rpm when it does kick in its no way near as powerful as it used to be- almost as though its spooling up later than it should and by the time it comes on the 2nd ones ready to go.... the speedo is out over 80 leptons (shows 85 when road angel shows 80, shows 100 at 90 etc) the car is shaking more and more at high speeds - anything over 80 leptons im lost, no idea whats going on..... someone offer any advice? i dont have a boost gauge yet so dont know what its running, but apart from the above and a ssqv im stock. Thanks
Guest Chumpalot
shaking at higher speeds usually means your wheels aren't balanced properly or your tracking is out. Did it do this before? sorry i can't help on the other points.

juanchan
Don't most speedos over-read like that anyway? Whenever I've had GPS in either of my cars, the speedo reckons I'm going faster than the GPS. And at Santa Pod my speedo was nearly at 110, when I was only officially going

Nic
Who fitted the parts? Take it back and get them to sort it out.
hiten55
Who fitted the parts? Take it back and get them to sort it out. it was a guy in gillingham that only does imports, never had a problem with him so i thought it may be something to do with not having a restrictor ring or something like that? or maybe its because im on a standard fuel pump?? R Black
Im no expert but i cant see how fitting THOSE bits can make your car slower, i.e. exhaust and decat = better breathing so defo more horses, panel filter slightly more air in = debatebly more horses, if spark plugs are the correct type better burning again more hp, as for the wobble, you sure the guys kosher as it could only really get worse i would imagine by doing loadsa mileage in between or getting some abuse, he also should have driven it b4 and a shakedown after fitting hence should know its not right. MarkR
What braided hoses did you fit? Are they engine bits or for the brakes? He might have taken some piping off and not put it back on properly, so maybe a boost pipe leaking somewhere? Could incorrect gapping on plugs do this? If he took the wheels off to bleed the brake fluid, he might have tightened them incorrectly and they might not be perfectly centered which would cause the shaking. Jack up the car, loosen the bolts, and then tighten them again in a sequence (see http://autorepair.about.com/library/illustrations/bl873a-lib.htm) do them a little at a time as in the pic and make sure the nuts go into the holes nice and centered. Good luck dude...

Good luck dude... the hoses are for the brakes so he definitely took the wheels off, i'll jack it up and give it a go. the gaping on the spark plugs? would that mean the plugs are the wrong ones? i got them from whifbitz so i doubt they are wrong - or would it be something he has done when fitting them? just spoke to him and he said the same thing - check for loose pipes, im hoping thats what it is as he did say my pipes are really old and need replacing because they seem to be breaking when you remove them so one may be cracked. thanks mate
MarkR
He might have messed a vacuum pipe when he did the master cylinder cos it's in the right area... check all the pipes near there...

Basically, when you fit spark plugs you need to set the gap between the electrodes, which varies from car to car. I seem to remember seeing an article on here with how much the gap should be depending on what BPU level your car is at. Also, if he's said the pipes "might" be cracked, i'd put money on the fact that he has cracked one and not told you (or not noticed). Get yourself some nice new tubing and make it pretty

R Black
I now reckon the inreased spec on your engine, along with spirited testing has taken its toll on your aging pipes causing boost leaks.
hiten55
I now reckon the inreased spec on your engine, along with spirited testing has taken its toll on your aging pipes causing boost leaks. i've been thinking that too - i'll get it it looked at next weekend. interestingly, rev to 3k and release the throttle - the dump valave no longer sings - so im guessing theres definately a leak somewhere....
