hadyn
If I were to just run a 2nd decat with the 1st cat still in place, would I definately need an uprated fuel pump to cope with the slight increase in boost? Bear in mind my pump has done about 125k miles and I presume its still the stock j-spec TT fuel pump that came out of the factory...
jamesmark
Keron is selling decats, I think the last time I looked he still had it left (2nd)
Tricky-Ricky
Only if your pump is old/lot of miles, and that just for safety/reliability, the US theory is that the std pump is good for increased horsepower up to 500 i think.
hadyn
thats the standard us/uk pump. Wouldnt like to run 1.2 bar on a stock jspec pump tbh, i presume 0.8/0.9 bar would be safe on a stock pump? Is there any info on how well an older j-spec fuel pump will flow? Do these pumps go on for ever? I know nissan fuel pumps tend to pack up after 60 odd k miles, but being toyota do theirs just like go on for ever?!!
Tricky-Ricky
Not if there like the oil pumps;) i suspect that most pumps fitted to a lot of jap cars are manufactured by a single company, i have seen on a few owners forums that the consensus seems to be that std pumps will in fact handle increased fuel demands quite happily, but all in all whats £60-100 for a bit of peace of mind;)

hadyn
Sorry for bumping this thread, but it is safe to run with the 1st cat in place and the 2nd cat removed? EGTs shouldnt be that bad under 1 bar should they? Would I need a restrictor ring with the 1st cat in place???
Tricky-Ricky
No problem with that, EGTs won't be a problem, and you won't need a RR either.
Ric
i think you might even find with just the 2nd cat out, boost wont go up that much, the 1st cat is the most restrictive.
hadyn
Good good What exact gains will you get with just a 2nd decat then? A bit more noise?
Ric
yeha a tad more noise, perhaps 0.9-1.0 bar and any smoke coming through if ure seals are going
Spoony
i also have the 2nd cat removed and a blitz catback. i use a tuning fuel pump from my vauxhall turbo doing 220 liters/h. the most problem is the age of the pumps, a stopping fuel pump can not be dangerous for a stock engine, but with 1 bar youre right on the limit. so please buy a new fuel pump and some sparks, and you will fell better while pushing the paddle mine is doing 0,8 bar in the first gear (auto), 0,9 bar in the 2nd and 1 bar in the 3rd gear. will remove the first cat soon and replace the non exissting 2nd with a 100 cell cat instead of a restrictor ring
R Black
Sorry for jumping this thread but what about the other way round, decatting the 1st cat as its the most restrictive egt's RR ETC?
hadyn
If you decat the 1st, you'll prob hit over 1 bar of boost, so I say you'd definately need to replace a j-spec pump for fuelling in that case..
Guest munchie
OK, silly question maybe but where in the car is the fuel pump?
hadyn
OK, silly question maybe but where in the car is the fuel pump? Fuel tank
Guest munchie
yeah i saw that one comming does the tank have to come off to get the pump out?
hadyn
Nope, you literally unscrew the lid to the tank from within the boot and then lift the stock fuel pump in its cradle out.
