cheekymonkey
My 6 speed *should* have an LSD, indeed it's indicated by the VIN plate. When I jack up the rear and spin one wheel, the other wheel spins in the opposite direction. Searching this forum doesn't help as some people say that means LSD, others say no! This was in gear mind - in neutral, both wheels are able to spin freely without affecting the other one. Is that normal? Any ideas would be useful before I attempt to learn to drift next week
Guest jk_supra
if you car has an lsd when you spin one wheel the other should spin in the same direction :FACT:
JustGav
The torsen diff does something odd, since it is a torque sensing one, it needs power to distribute and turning a wheel by hand I don't believe would generate sufficient. I stand to be correct on this, as while I know what a torsen does and I'm unsure on exactly how it does it.
cheekymonkey
Yeah I was just about to comment that my test may not have been a valid one as there are so many ways a diff can work, and may well need engine power to do so! How could I tell by driving?
JustGav
Floor it from standstill, and see if both wheels leave a skid mark *grin*.... Donutting is also far easier, just don't blow the powersteering pump.
cheekymonkey
Oh! hehe.. well, OK! I already know I leave double tracks Hopefully that means I am fine then, and my other test was bogus?

Fish
When out of gear my wheels turned the same way (from just hand turning) - is that a sign of a plate type diff ? Sorry for the hijack monkey:sly:
Jezz
All 6 speeds use the TORque SENsitive type 2 diff. Acts like an open diff when turned by hand. Type 1's are permanantly locked.
cheekymonkey
So which is best for drifting? Again, have heard conflicting stories here. Some say LSD, others say a locked / welded diff...
