Thermostat problem

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of fitting a TRD thermostat and new fluidine rad. The Rad went in fine but I can't get the 'stat to stop leaking!! It just won't seal using the old or new O ring that goes round it.

Should there be a gasket or something? Can anyone think what i'm missing? The only thing I can think is that the thermostat is wrong. Model number is 16340-sp020 / 90916-03093

Please help before I throw the car out of the window!! :innocent: I'm really losing patience with the bottom hose now.

Cheers

Gaz

afaik the only seal is the rubber ring fitted to the thermostat, i fitted one last year and put i fine film of instant gasket on the mating faces and it was perfect

i take it you cleaned up both halfs, no obstructions ect?

yeah the whole thing looks like it should go in perfectly but it just won't!! I've tried it a few ways but there is only one real way it should fit. I don't get it - it was fine before!

yeah it only fits one way round. Have you compared it to the old one? also is there a cut out in the edge of the thermostat that lines up on the casing? i can't remember if there was on mine, but it's worth a check :)

Good thinking, i'll have a look. I've retired with a beer for now but will be trying again tomorrow. The old one is a bit of a moot point as half is in England and half at the 'Ring... I had to "doctor" it a bit to get me home (that was before the rad gave way).

i fitted one two weeks ago went in ok ..... as far as i can remember the seal fits around the base of the thermo state make sure the faces of casings are clean and face the thermo spring side upwards ...hope this helps ;)

I'm pretty sure I did but will double check, thanks mate.

Nope can't make the date. I've been to most of the other shows but for some reason something comes up every year when JAE is on! Typical. It's just not meant to be.

Warm beer? We don't have that round here!
