A pointless thread to serve as an example.

People saying use the search are beginning to piss me off.

Similarly people posting the same questions time after time are beginning to piss me off.

I've said it before and will say it again though. The search facility on vBulletin is shite. We'd probably be better off using a Google link to search the form like when you put into Google " keyword site:http://www.mkivsupra.net "

Things change all the time, and if you are after advice on something or researching a potential purchase there are always new products being released and new companies being recommended, Or if you're trying to find out how to remove something from your car, it's quite possible that someone could now be more helpful than previous posts.

A valid point, bump the old thread, ask your updated question and express your thoughts that newer ideas may exist and then wait for the replies.

The biggest problem with the search is that people don't learn, or think about, how to use it efficiently. Proper filtering by use of the options in the advanced search will greatly reduce the amount of irrelevant results returned.

I agree that just telling people to search isn't helpful but I think telling them what to search for is help enough. I usually do this because I don't like spoon-feeding people.

Using the search is great right up until the point you are no good at using the search button. I can never find old threads that I have posted and know the content of never mind ones I don't the catch words for. For example I recently tried to find the procedure for checking the oil level in the auto box. I couldn't for love nor money find it even though I can clearly remember coming across it before.

Can someone answer this please?

How do you search for posts from a specific date or from a date range? I know Jake can do it and Michael mentioned about changing the URL but I'm none the wiser.
