Wez
Hello, Just spoke to AEM in the states and they said that they now do a plug and play version for the J-Spec TT. Should be about $1900. Has anyone got one of these fitted, if so how do you rate it? Wez
Alex
Its too new for any one here to have one! Did they say they now have a direct drop in for the j-spec or that the US spec can be fudged to run a J-spec?
Syed Shah
They do one for the j-spec???????? Are you sure it is not just wiring in the race-spec one in by hand? If they do, then it is great news for a lot of people on this site
Wez
He said that it was a direct drop in as they have now sorted the issues which they use to have. I am guessing it was only a software change as I believe that the pinouts are very similar. He has even given me the contact details for a dealer in Surrey, I am gonna call them tommorow. Guest Martin F
I have been following the AEM threads quite closely and was quite suprised when people here said it wouldn't work with the J-spec. Reason being that most of the guys that are fitting them in the states are ditching the MAF and relying on MAP and a temperature sensor (aftermarket). Sound familiar ? Just like the J-spec. Only thing is until somebody actually tries it, it's hard to be 100% sure.
Wez
Ok guys, the UK dealer is Gems, they have confirmed that the ECU is plug compatible with the J-Spec. The guy you need to speak to is Richard Armitage (01784 470525). He said the unit comes complete with all cables and software and should be somewhere in the region of £1100 depending on the exhange rate and excluding shipping. If more people buy together then the cost of shipping is reduced. He also said that removing the air flow sensor can give another power gain as it is very restrictive and the ECU doesn`t use it. Hope this is the info you guys were looking for So who is gonna go first then?
Guest Martin F
Now isn't that a turn up! GEMS are allegedly the supplier to AEM of the hardware.
Wez
I remember a while back on the US forum there was some info floating back and forwards that the unit is based on a GEMS. GEMS from my understanding are a very good company and there ECU`s are used in a fair few group N rally cars. So not a bad company to be backed up by. Wez
I have just asked gems if they would send me the software and a J-Spec map so I can have a play, see how configurable it really is.
Guest Martin F
The demo software is available from AEM's website. I also posted a link not so long back to all the manuals.
Wez
Yeah you are right, thats the software gems recommend you play with, it has a couple of profiles with it aswell apparently. I am just going to give it a try. Just go to http://www.aempower.com and download the ECU demo.
Syed Shah
Apparently (according to Dusty @ MVP) there has been a recall on the AEM ECU. I would wait if I were you.
Guest Martin F
It is a very simple mod that needs doing. Sending back to AEM is not necessary if you are happy using a soldering iron. Basically they found out that the fuel pump was running all the time with the key switched to accessory instead of timing out after a few seconds. Obviously this could be a disaster from a safety point of view. To correct the problem one resistor needs removing. I think the way they went about the recall and distribution of info was exemplary. Most people know that a new product is going to have a few problems, and the way that a company deals with those issues tends to be what is most important. Syed Shah
Obviously, with such a complex piece of kit, there is going to be problems, which is why I think it is best to wait a couple of monhs for the inevitable glitches to be found and rectified.
