Guest steve77964
I just spoke to sky insurance regarding temp insurance cover on a car im due to collect from Jurgen in a couple of weeks. I need the cover note to register the new car etc... However i still need cover on the car Jurgen is taking off me in part ex as i will need to drive it up to Newcastle. I currently pay £850 a year with 7 years protected no claims fully comp on a car with an agreed highest value of £15000. The new car is a standard auto tt 95 reg but they want to charge me £125 for 28 days cover??? Complete piss take in my eyes...anyone know a way around it other than driving to Newcastle without insurance???
jaymdee
You can usually get a grace period to cover 2 cars with no extra money, but 28 days is probably pushing it. I wouldn't drive without insurance
Whitesupraboy2
nope, its a nightmare with imports. not sure if this helps, but if the car your part ex'ing is a UK spec car of some sorts. (not sure if its an NA) then RAC do a day by day insurance. think its about £20 a day but more days you take cheaper it gets. http://www.rac.co.uk/web/insurance/car/

I wouldn't drive without insurance I thought they would do that, they said only alternative is per week at £40 i will probs be exchanging on 14/15th July depending on speed of registration... Whitesupraboy2
I can't register the car without a valid insurance certificate! Before I was with Sky i had a similar problem so when I insured with (sterling insurance back then) they sent me the insurance document in pdf format via email. I printed it off and went and got my Tax

Its exactly the same as what they would print off and send to you its just I printed it off instead.
Jake
I can't register the car without a valid insurance certificate! Drive it unregistered then. Is £125 for a months insurance that outrageous then? Doesn't seem too bad to me.

Doesn't seem too bad to me. well yeah as my current premium is £850 per year which is only about £71.00 per month, for a car valued at £15000 and this new car is less than half that! Jake
The value of the car isn't the only factor to be considered when assessing the risk. I think one month's insurance is usually about 20% of a year's premium. So it's about right.

Mcgoo
I have always paid between £25 - £40 per week (depending on who I'm insured with at the time) for insurance on a N/A 300zx as a second car. So I would say its about right.
Sheefa
Your insurance premium Sky quoted is about right. Insurers as Jake mentioned don't necessarily take into account the value of your old and new car when adjusting premiums, and nor will they spread the cost of annual cover on a day-by-day basis - that's stupid. How is this any different from a long-term guarantee where it's cheaper in the long run to buy a 5-year guarantee than just a 1-year one? Same for mobile phones, other contracts, pretty much everything. Your looking too much into this. Pay the sum, know you're covered and don't go out one weekend. Problem solved. ivan
Or: Tell Sky that if they can't play ball you will just cancel the existing car insurance instead of transfering it. The call A-Plan and arrange insurance on the new car with them.
