I've come up with a plan for filling my holiday up!

I'm going to try to blag some test drives in luxury cars.

It came to me while passing an Audi dealership and wondering if the had an R8 in there. Then I thought "hmm... what are the chances of....."

So, any tips? Do I turn up in the Supra?

Do I dress smart or smart/casual?

What should I say? What are the sales people wanting to hear?

If I can get an R8 done then I'm going to the new Porsche dealership in Leeds and keep going until I can blag a test drive at Aston Martin.:D

"The company is coming up to end of year and the dividends are coming through after some great profits"

Pink Pringle sweater and golfing socks.

;)

I want to look like a serious sports car driver not a Gaylord!

Probably dress smart and go in the Supra. I remember going into an Audi dealership enquiring about leasing a new S3, when he saw the car i pulled up in (the old battered pug 306) his attitude towards me totally changed, actually said thinks like "you do realise this is a 32 grand car". I still to this day think if i was in the Supra or a merc or something he would have been different.

Anyway, back on topic.

Tips for blagging test drives.

Depending how hot the salesman is he will want to be talking figures before he will take you out in the car (unless he is VERY bored and/or business is slow)

Be careful you dont end up signing on the dotty line n all that - seen it happen many a time, salesman delivers figures, test drive works out and you start convincing yourself you could perhaps afford it if you sold the car/house/wife/children

For each car think of another in its class and point out you have been out in it twice and liked it lots, so their car will have to really wow you.

Might be best off saying for the Audi ones that you are looking at a new company car now you are at director level :)

It Shouldnt matter what you wear or drive, as the salesman didnt ought to assume anything ;)

I think you might struggle to convince someone that you are classy enough to own a car like that........:sly:

Just say you've had a bit of a result on the lottery!! At the end of the drive, ask him how far your "tenner" will get you.....:D

You should dress as smart as you can. I know of a guy by me who owns a lot of companies and is a multi-millionaire, but gets his hands dirty and dresses accordingly. He once went to a Jag dealership intending on buying 2 new motors. However when he walked in wearing his workers not one member of staff acknologed him. With this he thought f*ck em and left. The manager then saw him leave and with great excitement asked his staff what he came to look at....woops. A lot of commision was lost that day. He's driving round in a DB9 Vantage now.

I reckon that turning up in a Supra won't really cut it at some dealerships. At least, turning up in my Supra might not cut it.

Short of 'borrowing' something flash I might just nip out for this months Evo mag.

Turn up in jeans ans tshirt, just like a rich person would on their day off.

That's a good point. I could pretend to be a footballer. With the run that Leeds are having I'm just as likely to be signed as anyone, beer belly or not!

I thought about waiting until a salesperson steps out for a fag break and then pulling up at Audi (on the phone), getting out and be saying to the imaginary person at the other end "nah! its 4wd, the GT3 is rear wheels only" etc etc and going on about how it'd have to be a bit special to change my opinion now blah blah blah.

The saleperson will hear all that and should hopefully get sucked into my plan.

Why don't you go on a test drive marathon!! Starting with something like a BM 3 series and working your way up, leaving each lesser car at the next dealership. At the end you can get out of a Ferrari 430 at the Lambo dealership!!:D

How about BMW 3 series Coupe, then on to a new Audi TT. Then a Lexus SC430, Mercedes SL55, Porsche 911, Bentley Continental, Ferrari 430, then on to a Lambo Mercielago??

The possibilities are endless......:D

Turn up whatever you like. BUT, good footwear and an expensive watch usually are good signs of money.

Turn up up in a suit with buffed shoes wearing a swatch won't cut it.

Turn up in jeans and a t shirt wearing say an Omega or Breitling might say a bit more about you. It's the little things that say alot. ;)

I can lona you my Breitling for a reasonable rate and a 10% deposit of it's purchase price. :D
