RiceRocketUk
Help...... yesterday I started to change over my dials on the car, I disconnected the battery and changed the dials and all was fine, however after going out and testing found everything was working except the display panel to the right wasnt working properly. I noticed it had a intermittent connection as there is something wrong with the plug, however after thinking I had sorted it , the engine management light kept flashing first twice, then 4 times on a loop. I cant remember if the display panel was working before I changed the dials and I just hadnt noticed or that i`ve done something wrong. The car seemed to drive ok I thought however I dont want to do any damage. Is it a case that it could have stored a fault code but I did not know because the display panel wasnt working correctly, or is it something i`ve done Any help would be very much appreciated... RiceRocketUk
I have done a bit of reading on this, it might be that resetting my ecu has shown the fault, along with the fact perhaps I had a dodgy connector, when turning the ignition on the EML blinks 4 times and then 2, pointing to NO1 speed sensor. I have had to use the paperclip method but do i presume i have understood right. Please note the red warning tringle on the dash has never illuminated. If it is the sensor where is it located and where`s the best place to get one, and also is it ok to drive the car while I am awaiting sorry for all the queastions
imi
Code 42 is indeed the speed sensor. Very common problem (probably a dodgy speed converter)
RiceRocketUk
hmm,I did take the screws out the back of the speedo for the speed convertor, although I put back exactly the same way. The speedo does seem to work correctly though
RiceRocketUk
Code 42 is indeed the speed sensor. Very common problem (probably a dodgy speed converter) drove home and the speed convertor seems to be working fine, the speedo works and gives approx correct speed. In which case what else could it be? thanks

Tricky-Ricky
Are you saying that the red warning never comes on? sounds like on removing the dash you have disturbed a connection, so i would re check the delimiter, also you mentioned that the warning lights on the right are not working, there is a guide somewhere, but basically you need to take it out and re solder the joints on the pc track, as they tend to get dry joints with age, its common problem, also there are two of the most important warning lights, oil level (amber) and oil pressure (red)

The orange triangle light doesnt come on at all, i can get the lights on the right to work by adjusting the connector on the right. I have looked at the 42 code fix by lining the odometer wires, or will this not be applicable?
