Ferry or Tunnel?

Dover ferry is usually cheap enough. Most times you don't need to pre-book, just turn up and pay on the gate. Approx £80 return to Calais.

If you are from the Tyne and Wear area then the Hull ferry might save you money overall if you take into account fuel cost from that area to Dover.

Hull ferry is in the order of £200-£300.

no problem with the ferries.. if you're car is very low they can put extra ramps out on request. But you will have to request them, they don't really pay much attention to clearance when all they are bothered about is getting everyone on as quick as possible for a quick turn around.

Tunnel I believe is even less of a problem as there are no ramps to speak of.

I've travelled on the channel tunnel a few times (not in the Supa mind), and its just great, as you feel you and your car have almost a carriage all to yourself. I don't think there's a clearance issue as you board the train virtually at ground level. Whereas, as AJI says, the ferries just want you on and off quickly. Scratch and scrape city!

I booked direct with Norfolk Line for a Dover -> Dunkerque crossing, which costs more the later you leave it. Booked ~4 months in advance the crossing was £35 RETURN :D Booked today it's more like £60 I'm told.
