Ever since I watched the series on the BBC I have wanted to own the complete boxset, and what better way to spend a rainy saturday than to watch part 1 to 8 of this fantastic mini-series.

WOW!! :salute:

Probably the best thing I have seen on TV for along while.

Really enjoying it.

Simply stunning and highly recommended work by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

I got the boxed dvd set a few years back. TBH I find it a bit emotionally draining to sit through it in one go, but you're right, it is, without doubt one of the best made war dramas ever.

I just wish, that a war drama was made of that quality, showing the British effort during the WWII Normandy and European liberation, instead of everything being from an American viewpoint.

True mate.

Although this does show the British Campain at Arnhem, pluss the Red Devils and features British heavy armour including aircover (mosquito squadrons) which is more than mentioned in Shaving Ryans Privates.

the best part in BoB is when they are attacking the town in the snow after they bombarded the forests the americans are in.

The crazy yank runs from one side of the wee town to the other then back again without being shot or anything :D

Dunno why but the war really appeals to me, as sick and sadicstic as it might sound i would have loved to experiance it.

Yes sure its just the dramatisation from the movies but dunno just feel like ive missed out on something i would have enjoyed

Fair enough lol.

Still, a fitting tribute to a company of heroes. The making of it and the interviews with the real Easy Company are especialy moving. I love the way the cast tried sooo hard to do their parts well - as one of them said he hoped that the guys would see the series as some sort of trubute to them - some kind of a tiny eeny weeny snippet of a thank you and a tribute to them for what they did as there isn't anything they could do to ever repay them.

Damien Lewis and Ron Livingston excelled in this I think.

Yep was a damn good show, got a lot of flack from the papers for being a bit unhistorical (apparently it was the red devils who helped rescue the yanks not the other way around). The part that got me was David Schrimler (or however its spelt) kept on having to kick my self and go "no Ross is not in the army"

Agree, not 100% historically correct and with some glitches.

I noticed a few times the guy firing the M2 Machine Gun keeped picking it up by the barrel and moving position.

Not a good idea without asbestos gloves.

Didn't seem to bother him tho ;)

My favitote part is when they ride into that villege ontop of the British tanks unawhere of the awaiting Tiger and Panzer Tanks.

That is just sooooo dramatic.

I too would have loved to experienced WWII first hand.

I can guarantee you I would have sh1t my pants at the first sign of action, but what a story!

We should all be grateful and remember those who didn't make it home on all sides!

:salute:

Agree with all of the above... one of the best series ive ever seen.

I remember when it was first shown on tv, sunday nights were the highlight of my week :)

Very well filmed and scripted and the interviews with the real vets really hammer home the realism and the heroism of the guys who fought in the war.

The interviews towards the end of the series really 'get me' especially with Shifty and the captain... they've been through some serious sh#t
