JustGav
I've just noticed that it has been bumped up to 20mb finally, this means that Reading should have also been done. Not noticed a HUGE improvement to be honest....
Pabs
damn! I'm in Southampton where i should be able to get 2MB ish, but my current speed is less than 512kbs - and I can only assume it's because of the crappy cables in the block of flats It's not fast - it's terrible

Hmmm, with cable you should get full speed, non of this ADSL degradation.. Are you sure you aren't on ADSL? My ADSL line is terrible for that, supposed to be 8mb, but it does degrade down to around 5.5mb...

Henk
If 20mb has not made much of a difference, check on their web site if you need to see if you need to change your cable modem. I did have to...
DaveK
I think I'm on 2M ADSL - but I suspect I may be shopping around soon. Mine is paid for by my company - I ditched the original modem for a wireless router. However, they are "upgrading" us to 8M - and this means they will provide us with new wireless routers. Problem is, some people have already had this done. The routers seem to be pretty insecure - they are using WEP (better than nothing I guess), and still broadcast SSID. Our ADSL accounts are changed (including password) - so you have to use the provided router or you can't log in. And they won't give you the password to the router so you can't change it. No amount of telling them how insecure it is has helped. So - at the point where I'm told my ADSL is being upgraded, I will tell them to shove my free broadband up their bum and I will buy my own. Oh - and as for doing any work from home, forget about it.
Andrew_sup
If 20mb has not made much of a difference, check on their web site if you need to see if you need to change your cable modem. thats a none chargeable upgrade the modems are free and you only need it if your pre ntl 250. i work for virgin tech support
Andrew_sup
and if it has not made a differance then there must be a problem some where the new modems run on 4 channels so you may only see a full download on torrent sites or if you have multiple downloads running add up the transfer rates see if they total 20mb try 5 d/ls.. apple.com itunes player is the best one for speed apple site runs like a greased penguin down a water slide very fast. (Purely for research purposes, seriously)... Is there another new one? Although I have had 2mB/s transfers, had to upgrade my firewall, my little itx box was taking a kicking at that speed, especially with all the layer 7 filter I have active..... Bobbeh
You're only gonna get a better connection if the place you're connecting to has the capacity to transfer data at your rate. I've been on it too, and tbh so far I've seen no difference from 10mbit.

(I'm an ex networking guy... )... but with stuff such as bit torrent which establishes multiple connections to multiple sources I've noticed a speed increase..
