Nitrous bottles

I had to sit down and catch my breath when I saw the price of nitrous bottles. Over £100 for a bit of rolled-up metal? Ouch.

Has anyone found any creative solutions to this problem? You don't have to be cheap like me, just showing your ingenuity. I'm wondering if any other pressurised containers will fit the bill? Fire extinguishers spring to mind.

Am I destined to spend ages bemoaning the cost and then having to bite the bullet anyway or does anyone have a cunning plan?

I've now got an image of a Mad Max style Supra with a nitrous-filled beer keg implanted in the boot....

That'd be a giggle. 'specially if it leaked...

i would have though any type of high pressure container would do, as long as it can have the right value fitted....

but saying that if you buy a nos kit, it normally comes with a bottle! or you going to add a second nos bottle?

The typical pressure in a fire extinguisher is about 10bar, and they are meant to be refilled, so they strip down. I would imagin a NOS bottle would be something like an Oxy bottle for diving, and does not strip down (ie unsrew the top and look into the bottle).

Personally I would bite the bullet and pay for the correct bottle, simply as you will be driving a bomb, and you would want it to go off would you?

On another note, are you going for water injection as well?

I have been thinking about getting some for some time (and a shot of nos too) but have not found enough info about them yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

All tanks are preassure tested to meet regulations and are stamped with the test certification, fire bottles definitely meet the same regs as nos bottles but you would have to find one that would have the same thread and fitting in the neck to accept the valve compatible with your nos kit
