fitting uk spec brakes to jspec car

Nigel, I've done this very recently. If you want to call me I'll tell you exactly. 01622 683044

Basically, just unbolt the caliper and brake hose, remove the old caliper and the disk should virtually fall off, (may need a little persuasion but mine didn't). Then undo the 4 small bolts holding the metal backplate, then using tinsnips or similar, cut a small section out and twist it over the hub. (It's never going back on).

Lastly re-fit disk and check runout, (as described in lengthy descussion previously by Martin & Mycroft;) ). Refit caliper, pads rattleclips and shims. Bleed brakes, bed in for about 50-100 miles.

Test by taking an unsuspecting passenger for a drive without a seatbelt and watch how much effort they need to use to prevent themselves from exiting via the windscreen!

To be honest, I can't remember... 0.02 and 0.03 rings a bell but don't quote me on it... I remember that I tried every hole on the second disk and the variance was virtually non-existant.

It took me about 2 - 2.5 hours, (ish) and I wasn't rushing.

I did about 100 miles before really slamming them on...

definate case of :) :D

I'm looking forward to your opinion on the upgrade.

Are you doing front's only or rears as well?

ive done it!!!!!!!! euro spec front & rear calipers & discs. :D

first of all, what a difference! ive read all the post b4 on this conversion and heard folk rave about them, but when u feel it in the flesh, its a different thing. i think this will probably end up being my best mod to the car. cant wait to decat now ive got my mot.

ran into some problems fitting with the new hoses, the brakeline ends had flared inside the old hose coupling, this ended up taking about 4 hours to sort out. the rest of the job took about 5 hours to do (not rushing). the old disc guards were trickey at first but after the first easy (screwdriver & hammer). the runout was perfect, the worst being 0.03mm the best 0.02mm. that, i think is amazing, less than 1/20mm out from perfect on a nine year old car.

matt, the rears were easy to do, just remember to adjust the handbrake b4 taking them off. the rear guards came off the easiest (5 mins work).

all in all with the info from this bbs and the tech data from mkiv.com (thanks martin) this was an easy job for someone with a little experience of getting oily hands. i was a little reluctant at first to do this job myself , with it being brakes, but its not difficult to do if u get all the info. ive also had it all checked over by my mot man, which i think is a wise move.

thanks for all yr help guys.

matt, regarding the "great uk spec brake buy", erik should be in touch this w/e regarding how to pay.

right i shall continue to bed the brakes in (thats what im telling the missus) :D
