arnout
The kits are pretty much done. The first prototypes that came in had to be adjusted because the pipeworks didn't fit. I changed the 3 inch kit to external wastegate. Here are some pictures. http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/3inchkit1.jpg Top view: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/3inchkit3.jpg wastegate venting to air: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/3inchkit4.jpg overview: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/3inchkit6.jpg Flavio asked for a 4 inch downpipe / midpipe combination. I bought the downpipe and midpipe from boostlogic as I didn't really want to make it myself. The midpipe was a pretty good fit on the car and we only had to adjust the downpipe. This kit will have the expensive V-band style wastegate while the 3 inch pipeworks kit will have the cheaper 4-bolt wastegates which can be replaced with the even cheaper chinese immitations (on ebay all the time for like 200 bucks). This is the altered boostlogic downpipe: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/4inchdownpipe.jpg View from under the car: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/4inchkit2.jpg In car view: http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/4inchkit4.jpg The nice thing is we didn't adjust the boostlogic midpipe at all, so it's a direct fit to their midpipe! That's currently my update Today the last prototype (hopefully) of the 3 inch pipeworks came in, with a new turbo as well. Hopefully this will be the final fitment (I have to test it soon)! The first few prototypes I had to adjust (that's why I made one with a screamerpipe)
b_have
That looks pure quality! Really need to plumb my wastegate like this (I have the PHR with screamer pipe) How much is the flexi and 50mm V-band?
JohnA
Arnout, as a (practical) finishing touch, have you seen the need for expansion gaps like these below? They're in the order of a millimetre or so. http://www.max-boost.co.uk/stuff/arnout_manifold.jpg I've used them in the past, on top of oval stud holes, to avoid the outer studs being sheared off during full-boost expansion. It's nice to see that there are others sharing my scepticism for 'equal length runners' and bling, that elongate the path of the exhaust gases, take a lot of space, add unnecessary weight and heat in the bay. Cracking is an optional extra.
Digsy
I'd agree with John on the slots, but only if you find you crack a manifold after extended running. They are a fairly common feature on mass-production cast manifolds (or some kind of separated flange - maybe with one flange per runner). Difficlut to do on such a compact design where the "log" is an intergral part of the flange. OEM manifold shock tests are quite extreme, however, and are designed to very quickly show up any weaknesses in the manifold design. You might find your manifold survives for much longer under more normal use.
JohnA
It's just a cut with a bandsaw, saves a couple of sheared studs later.
arnout
the manifold has expansion gaps obviously for expansion under load (heat). We're not beginners
Digsy
We're not beginners Not trying to suggest you were, dude. Anyone who gets their own exhaust manifold cast up could hardly be described as a beginner. I've done a couple of turbo manifolds myself, and I know what a pig cracking can be. Good work
JohnA
I like Arnout's manifold, better than any other. If I were to go single, that's the one I'd go for.
arnout
okay got the final prototype of the pipeworks in. And.. it all fits! Here is a picture http://www.supras.nl/arnout/supras.nl%20manifold/rotatingkit.gif
paulrenn
Will the manifold take a Garrett GT25/35 and what sort of price are we talking?
eyefi
love the animation i think the flange on that turbo is a t3 (dont bank on that), arnouts manifold is a t4
JohnA
yeah, the animation is very 21st century
arnout
yupz, my manifold is T4 for the turbo and an easy very common 3 bolt flange for the wastegate. Volvo uses this flange for their turbo, I use their gaskets.
arnout
Finally had some chance to dyno Flavio's car. Unfortunately only on pump gas. The methanol system needs priming to get the car into high boost. Here is some dyno movie. Always cool. This is the first car we put the manifold on: Flavio on the dyno

RobSheffield
worth bringing back the thread though
JohnA
Nice one Arnout. Any closeup pictures of the manifold showing downpipe and wastegate routing?
Alex
Good result and thanks for keeping this thread up to date. Obviously different RR's produce different results, but I expected more from that spec, at that boost. Maybe your RR is conservative. Anyway if it's good safe power then it's, pretty academic what the exact figure is....it'll still be a killer road car
Gaz Walker
Thanks Arnout
arnout
We will put it on the dyno at highboost pretty soon!
Chris Wilson
Very nice Arnout! Great manifold, too. Amazed people use anything else. Keep us posted, all the best!
Guest jdmk3
Jus wondering what engine brackets and mounts you used for your 2jz in an MK3 swap. I have an 89' Supra with the later style crossmember, Im also converting to manual. Any suggestions? Thanks:)
Scoboblio
Arnout no longer comes on here mate, his membership expired a while ago
