Chris Wilson
The fencing to the back field is now (99.99%) finished, aftter a Herculean effort over Saturday and early Sunday morning. We were told that due to a bull being introduced into the sellers herd on the Sunday we had to take delivery of them at 10.00 AM sharp, Sunday, no messing!. Anyway, we did it, although we'd probably have failed a breath test if there was such a thing for fence erectors, after a "session" on Saturday night down the local. Jane had paid a deposit on the beasts some time ago, so we received a cattle trailer with 2 two year old cows, each with a calf at foot, one heifer and one bull calf. The bull calf is the white one, the dun coloured calf is the female. So she has nearly got one of every acceptable colour They arrived just before the worst rain we have seen round these parts in many years, and took to the woods in disgust. We have neighbours on the back boundary of the wood with 3 Pyrennean Mountain Dogs, and they have been vocal ever since clapping eyes on the cattle. I am not entirely happy their owners have adequate fencing, so I went a bit OTT on the fencing I put up, mainly to allow us to have something more intersting in there, sometime in the future, but also to keep their dogs out should they jump their boundary fence into the back of the woods. The cows seem to be settling in, and although currently unapproachable Jane wants to get them handlable and to follow a feed bucket. Good luck to her is what I say... I am now officially farmer Chris http://www.chriswilson.tv/highland_cattle/highland.html

I'm hoping/assuming you'll be un-flooded and have working ramps by then? (please god!) P.S. What are the cattle for? Apart from burgers maybe? If not, no, water is subsiding, but right now I have a car 6 foot in the air and the ramps no power. I think the phase convertor is *uggered. Seems electricians are in great demand for similar reasons, throughout the county. Sorry, not my idea of fun, either They are ornamental mowing and fertilising machines. dangerous brain
Considering the dumb ass nature of cattle in general its amazing the houdini-esque escapes the mobile burgers make. I spent a vast amount of time in my youth chasing escapee cattle back to their own fields.

Love it, was just about to show Jane, but I'll put "novelty corks" on the shopping list, and show her this when she ask what the hell I am on about
AlanM
So I am not the only Highlander on here any more Highland cattle are usually pretty docile and quite easy to work with, not so sure if they behave the same when they are abroad though
