RobSheffield
Quite strange really, in 25 years of living here the town or surrounding areas have not as far as i know flooded. I was told not to go to work today as College is closed, the air is filled with Sea King helicopters ferrying people out of Sheffield and Whiston (small village 2 miles from me) (Also seen 5 or 10 fighter aircraft which seems odd!) The reservoir at Ulley is likely to fail at any time, and the dam wall is about 200m above the outer edges of Whiston. If it fails its going to be VERY bad down there. Fortunately my small village is about 4-500m above Rotherham town. No localised flooding (the sun is out and the roads are dry!) but i did have to go and rescue my younger brother from work last night!! He left work at 7pm, and called me at 11pm to say he was stuck and the water was rising in the river by the road. In the end i had to go and help him get his car into a multi storey and him and me back through the rising flood waters! Most of the town is under at least some water, parts of Hull are flooded completely, how did this happen? I know its been raining a little bit but we have had rain before! RobSheffield
You lazy f*** you're our man on the ground, we expect roving reports! Sorry Just been out specially for you. Found that there is some water on some roads and in some fields, my garden is ok though - phew The link in Rics post is probably better than i would have done anyway! (Ric lives about a mile away from that Dam, fortunately higher than it (i think)
jim_supra
Most of the roads into the town I live in (Hornsea) are still blocked by floods. there is only one road that's open, where it is very risky driving through as it's single track road with an 's' bend in it. which you can't see! Last nights drive home was a nightmare. What is normally a 15-20 minute drive took me nearly 3 hours! and having to drive through floods that are flowing like rivers is pretty scary as you can feel the car being moved because of it. TrickTT
Well i'm supposed to be driing up the M1 to leeds tonight. Looks like i'll be taking the scenic M6 - M62 route. I went up last night and all you could see from the M1 bridge over medowhall was water and turds from the sewerage plant.
RedM
all you could see from the M1 bridge over medowhall was water and turds from the sewerage plant. When it's not flooded the turds are still there. As for the fighter planes. Well, if you wanted to get noticed blowing up the dam would do it. Planes don't just crash into skyscrapers, he said conspiratorially.
