supraguye
Hi Guys, A drunk fool hit my car 3 weeks ago ... insurance payout has finally come ... so here I am thinking .. what car should I get next ... and being honest ... nothing other than a supra comes to mind. One of my mates has a 95 SZ which I can get of him for a fair price.... thinking of buying it and swapping in the 2jz-gte VVTI from the wrecked 98 RZ-S. My main reason for choosing this course of action is that after buying the SZ and swapping ... I'll have good money left over for probably even a single turbo upgrade. The main reason behind this thread is I would like to determine whether any of you can forsee any hurdles with the swap .... or is there anything generally I should be aware of. Thanks
JustGav
There are plenty of hurdles with this, although none of them are VERY serious. I've done this exact conversion. Provided you have the entire VVTi loom/ECU, dash and dash loom you should be fine.
Kopite
Speak to Phoenix One, he's done this before, the looms might be a bit tricky!
supraguye
Thanks ... In that case... think I'm gonna go for it... will document the progress.
JustGav
Yeah, definitely do it dude... Well worth it, just do it in stages... You will need the entire dash loom and clocks.. I would suggest doing the heater matrix at the same time. You will possibly also need the hubs from the front and the back in order for the traction control to work (without it the ECU will throw faults).. You will also need the ABS system (or at least a method to fool it). Feel free to ask any questions at any time. Gav
JustGav
Okay, I will also add the following... Is your donor car a manual? and don't do the single upgrade.. I made the mistake of doing EVERYTHING in one hit, and as such ran out of funds.. although it is back in action again now... I would say, do the transplant, and run the car for a bit, then do the single. VVTI's and singles are a little more interesting than the non-vvti's.. All do-able just do it slowly and planned *grin*
Thorin
I can see your insurance company rubbing it's hands together with glee already. Seriously I'd just buy another TT in the first place.

To be fair, I wasn't quoted over the top.. pretty much double my NA, which isn't bad for the VVTi aerotop.

Spoke to my agent ... and they quoted me about the same as the VVTI TT My whole reason behind doing the swap is that I can see lots of cash left over for upgrades. supraguye
Phoenix-One, In terms of engine, tranny, diff mounts, is there any fabrication necessary?
JustGav
Nope, everything mounted up without any issues... I think the only I had to cut were the brake shields and that is only because I was going to UK brakes anyway *grin*
supraguye
Thanks again phoenix one. Don't mean to be a bother.... just need to be sure that all bases are covered... does the fact that the NA is an auto and the TT is a 6spd matter? What sort of modification needs to be done to fit the extra pedal?
SimonB
For auto to manual info, see here: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/auto_to_6spd_swap/index.html Not for a VVTi, and LHD, but similar sort of job I guess.

supraguye
Would any of you know whether the sub tunnel for the 5 spd manual SZ is the the same as that of the 6spd?
