Unused Supra

Hi Folks,

My name is Jas and i'm new to this forum. I have done a search on the forum without luck.

Basically a mate bought a 94 supra SZ. The car is an import which he bought in 2002. He then went to work abroad and has now asked me to sell or use the car.

The car has not been started since around Feb 2003 and has been parked out in his drive.

The car has 60k miles on it. I don't know when it was last serviced and wondered about two things

1. Is there anything I should do (besides charge the battery) before starting it ?

2. Does anyone know of a supra specialist where I can get the car serviced around the west midlands preferably in Birmingham ?

NB does anyone know where I can get cheap insurance ?

All help would be much appreciated

Jas

Hi Jas,

You can forget charging the battery, it'll be dead as the ace of spades if the car's been sat since Feb 03.

Insurance varies a lot depending on your age and what mods have been done to the car. The SZ non turbo is often dearer the the Twin Turbo Supra to insure.

Jump leads from another car, leave other car fast idling for 20 minutes, start dead car. No specific other things needed save checking oil and water levels. bring dead car engine up to operating temp on guage. Check again for leaks, put through ALL gears on auto selector, leave idling in Park. Check auto box level idling. Road test bearing in mind brakes might be seized, either totally or enough to generate a lot of heat, feel rims to test. Bring to me in west Midlands for a service :)

Full services are between 300 and 450 quid depending what needs changing. I don't do any body work at all, but finally, after 8 years, I have found a suitable replacement for my friend who retired from the bodywork game, and they are just down the road. They are NOT cheap, as you might expect from somewhere that does "Mr Demon Tweaks" Alan Minshaws historic race car collection's bodywork, but they ARE good! Some folks, who haven't experienced the lack of quality the bargain basement body shops turn out, would say they are eye wateringly expensive.... Another definite case of you getting what you pay for though :)
