Req Oil Temp...?

Recommended Posts

All,

Just a little advise please, I have had a oil temp gauge in the car for over a year and up untill I had my single put on it would aleways read around 80ish when fully warm.

Since having the single put on it now reads around 95ish when warm. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the temp reading should be???

Just wondering if I need an oil cooler???

Thanks,

:)

Ideal would be > 100 (as that drives off any moisture that has got into the oil) but less than 130 I believe. Whether you need an oil cooler depends on what it gets up to when you're giving it some! The last track day I did, mine was getting very high after 15 minutes and I had to let it cool, so I could do with one.

it all depends on where you have the probe, if it is in the sump you will get lower readings, mine is in the sump and 80 sounds the same as mine when warm

Yeah it's sump plug mounted, just the fact it's gone up 15 degrees is a little strange. It's never been above 100 even when going some....:)

maybe the oil temp rising is down to the fact that your single is purely oil cooled whereas the stock turbos have water cooling and an oil feed so more load being placed on the oil cooling, i may be talking complete b****x, either way an oil cooler wont do any harm, if you go to a local hydraulic stockist they are about a tenth the cost of blitz hks etc, i am in the process of going single (and i'me not talking about binning the wife) so this is very interesting

Matt the reason you have increased oil temp is prob due to the fact that you now have a turbo heating the oil up a lot more than the twins which were water cooled , the only thing cooling the 61 is OIL !!!!!!!!)) degrees is perfect IMO and 85 was a bit low.

dude what position for the probe are you basing this on, filter/gallery or sump, i remember a thread from the sage wilson a long time ago where the gist of the thread was there was about a 20- 25 degree difference between the two which would put matts gallery oil temp up to 120 degree ish, do you think a thermostatically controlled oil cooler would be a worthwhile investment when going single ?
