fredm
Hi guys, just been reading the owners manual to my newly acquired UK TT (94) and it says that the airbag warning light should come on for 6 seconds when the ignition is switched on and then go off indicating that the circuit is working correctly. Since I have had the car it has never worked, just took the dash panel out and now I know why, there is no bulb fitted. Also there is no bulb for the seat belt warning light either. Would I be right in thinking that there has been a problem in the past with the SRS light staying on (indicating a fault) and the previous owner has just removed the bulb? Before I go and confront the dealer who sold me the car I would like to confirm that UK TT's should have that light fitted. Thanks.
carl0s
definately should have the SRS warning light fitted. If it stays lit, it's easy to fix with a short peice of wire ahd jumping some pins alternatively in the engine bay. Details are on here (utfse) or in the resources section. fredm
Thanks for that, I shall confront the salesman later this morning. Taking out the bulb really is a dick's trick. Had I not read the owners handbook I would not have realised there was a problem for ages by which time the warranty would have expired. Thanks. I had somebody do exactly that with an oil pressure warning bulb that had a constant earth problem. Instead of fixing the pesky leccy problem they took the bulb out. Consequently when the car developed an oil leak on a long journey first thing I knew about it was when the car lost power and the big end disintegrated :twak: Good job it was only a mini and i had a spare engine. So I guess its always worth having the warning lights tested occasionally especially if you take the dash out on the supe as it can develope dry joints on that warning panel on the right hand side and you could be risking the very same no oil warning light. Yep that's a very good idea! Always worth keeping and eye on that little panel, and if you have TRAC / SLIP CONT, turn it off for a minute and make sure it lights up there to tell you so. Mine was very finikky and I had to thump the panel for the light to show sometimes. Bit of resoldering and it's been perfect ever since.

Graham S
My UK has the SRS light, (red) it comes on as you said, also its the only one that comes on at ACC position on the ignition (I think!).
fredm
Hi guys, thanks for the info. I popped a new bulb in (after spending half a day trying to locate one) and the light came on, and stayed on. I reset the SRS light using the Diagnostic plug and it's worked o.k. ever since. My local toyota dealer could not identify the bulb I wanted from the parts list. The parts guy could not even identify the warning light clusters on each side of the dash. "Are you sure your car has them fitted, because they are not listed?", I'm sure he thought I was an idiot. I spent half an hour with him searching for the things but we gave up in the end. The guy was well flustered and glad to see the back of me. He probably thought it was a Friday afternoon wind up by the guys in the workshop. Chris Wilson
If you tirn the ignition to the on position with the cluster disconnected it flags the SRS warning light. Maybe someone had the panel apart and turned on the ignition, then realised they didn't know how to switch it off again?
TLicense
SRS light??? Hmmm shouldn't my GZ have this? The only light that comes on is the ABS one (On the right hand side warning lights anyway) IIRC it's the only buld that's in that side, not sure. I'm getting emin to sort out a blue dash in a month or so, I could get him to take a look. Tony

Get two peices of wire (I cut apart a CAT5 cable for the job), strip the ends. Open up the diag port in the engine bay, stick one peice of wire in TC and put the other peice in AB. Make sure the wires stay put, and alternately touch them to ground for about half a second at a time on the battery so you're going: TC (connected to ground) AB (connected to ground) TC ( "" ) AB ( "" ) TC (u get the idea) AB ... etc.
Aerotop Dave
You've all got me scared now - I'm going to see exactly what comes on (or not) when I go home tonight now.
